Open world was a mistake

Time limits in RPGs are counterproductive
You want players to explore and find things and a time limit stops them form doing and enjoying the game.
Fallout had a generous time limit and it wasn't much of a bother but the original ones that were tied to specific communities endings that got cut were so harsh that most players would never get the happy endings for those places.
I'm not opposed to time limits in any form, I think they could implemented after some triggers happen to properly convey urgency, but pacing is never something devs worry about.

There's even more time to waste, most of your time is spent walking from place to place, and you can just pad your stats without engaging with enemies at all, because the open world can't really force you to fight

Urgency is fucking awful. Why the FUCK would anyone even PRETEND to like shit like Majora's Mask, where there's an artificial urgency, you just have the TEDIUM of rewinding time, of rolling through Termina field for items everytime, when you could have actual genuine time control in when to waltz up to the quest giver/location and do the objective. Urgency fucking sucks.

One thing I liked about that terrible Outer Worlds game is that there was a sidequest to go rescue a scientist, and if you fucked around and completed other quests first he'd die before you reached him

That shit isn't immersive. I've seen your type. The ones who claim Kafei Anju sidequest is so touching, but faced with the prospect of doing that shit a second time to get every mask and bottle, you decide to just hack it into your inventory. I'll do you one better, I don't decide to replay that game, and I rate it appropriately against the rest of the franchise.

The only Zelda game with a sense of urgency from the plot is SS because you spend the first half of the game chasing Zelda. Mind you that doesn't mean there's a sense of urgency in the gameplay, none of the Zelda games have urgency. Even in MM you can rewind time so the end result is that you have to reset the cycle if you fuck up a side quest.

When I was a young lad of 3 playing Zelda 1, I though that I had to kill all the monsters because they keep coming back when you leave for a bit, so otherwise the world would get flooded in monsters if I didn't kill them all as I went.

you're like a midwit who didn't even play zelda games. since every zelda game has the same thing. the quest happens when you walk into it. you can't even formulate an argument in response, and still try to damage control. its just sad...I'm out.

In Breath of the Wild the entire thing is fairly honest, you're immediately told you've gotta kill Ganon and that you can go there and kill him right away but you need to get stronger to reliably do it, both in-narrative and as a player, so fucking about for a while is justified.
In TotK they copied the formula but fucked up the context in that the player AND Link both know what happened and where to go but we have to play along with the retardation so content can happen

I haven't played 3D Zelda since OOT. I barely even played BOTW but I can absolutely see why it got so much praise even just after a couple hours with the game. Going full open world was a great idea for this franchise.

Now I think they need to try to make one but with a darker tone to it like what Twilight Princess was allegedly going for during one of its scrapped builds. Doesn't have to go fully M rated levels of edge but if they can border that line while making a great game I'd love to play a Zelda like that.

You get told exactly what's going on and where she's supposed to be in a forced cutscene after you clear the boxed in tutorial. One of the reasons why BOTW fails completely at making an interesting mystery box out of the world and why TOTK does a much better job of it by having a way better story (that still bungles the ending) that doesn't hand you everything before you touch the ground

And there was no urgency because you could reset the clock anytime it got too uncomfortably close to doomsday once you retrieved the Ocarina of Time and exited the tutorial cycle.
