I always put the sunflowers in the safest spot because if your income gets damaged it's much more difficult to repair because you lack the income to pay for the repairs. If the peashooters get damaged, my income is still at 100% so it's easy to pay for a replacement.

Sunflowers pay by themselves within 2 sun productions. And the only way to replace a pea shooter immediately is if you already have the resources. And if you place the peashooter in the back you don't need to replace it, just replace a sunflower that not only is cheaper but also gets buffed during its first sun production.

You learn eventually that it is too devastating to have nothing left to defend yourself when zombies get to the last 2 rows. Even if you have 10,000 sun, you basically still have to plant sun producers to the right non stop, just as body armor, not for the sun producing

Why couldn't we get a rebalanced PVZ2 with no microtransactions, instead of the 1000th PVZ1 port. They need to at least add a hard mode to PVZ1, that may save it

Alternate UniverZ is a fairly hard pvz2 mod
It goes back to sunflowers only producing 25 suns like in 1, which changes everything

I was disappointed when I replayed Pvz1. Like normally I don't mind easy games, but Pvz1 was shockingly too easy. You can get a lot of sun very quickly and the zombies are too weak and their rate of them spawning is too slow for the game to really pose a threat. Even the supposed big threat of the game the Gargantuar only appears in 3 levels in adventure mode, and you can easily kill them with 1 or 2 instant kills, and in the Zomboss fight gives you them like candy. I got too easy that it honestly kind of got boring.

It's not even that I'm a pro at tower defense games or anything. I've played the Kingdom Rush games and struggle at getting 3 stars at the later levels on normal mode.

As for specific mods, I only tried
- alternate univerz: well balanced, adds new zombies and objectives, fleshes out many things (like score objectives now being interesting)
- reflourished: adds even more things, including 2 new worlds, but I haven't gotten far

TBF, PvZ kind of gets saved by the side content which is much more difficult and you spend more time with them, however it also got kind of grindy unlocking all of that shit, and I've already grinded to unlock them before, so if the switch version makes you fucking magnet shroom gold grind just to unlock more minigames, it can fuck right off.

I even replayed some of the minigames and survival mode and I don't even think they're that hard. Only ones that pose a notable challenge were pogo party and bobsled banaza, but nowhere near the level of challenge as the harder worlds in 2. And the survival modes rely on rng for its challenge because it's possible you won't face gargs or much of them in later levels.

Imagine how weird it must be to be a human in the PvZ universe. You could be a NEET just minding your own business, then the next day you are fending off zombies with genetically altered plants capable of lethal force. All the plants have faces, all of them are alive. Strange, even a bit offputting to be sure, but it's what happens after those initial days of invasion. Your plants all start coming out of the ground, walking and talking all the while. You think they are going to come after you for sending so many of their brethren to their doom, but they do the exact opposite. They all treat with gratitude for bringing them to life and act like you are their faux father. This is all nice and such, but as time goes on and the zombie problem gets worse, they all slowly but surely start coddling you. They first make sure you aren't near the frontlines of the war, it would be a terrible blow to them if they lost the brains of the operations. Then they get you off the battlefield entirely, insisting you could help them a lot more at homebase. It isn't too long before they take over the plan handling entirely, giving you more of a morale support role at homebase. Even then, they do your job just as well as you, each of them making sure to give you a hug or something like it before heading out to battle. You confess your feelings of uselessness to one of the veteran plants, and they assure you that you are the biggest part of the war, that you and your safety is what every plant fights for.
