They're too filled with niggers, spics and indians nowadays, but it's the closest you'll get to a Japanese Game Center. Go if you enjoy crane games and bowling, but expect disgruntled, sad employees and lots of money grubbing.

They had a test run of a taito Taiko-like game where the drum is a TV and you have to hit it in certain subregions, that one was pretty cool. Music games are always great there, they had groove coaster with Deltarune music. Lots of gatchas. Everything else is ticketslop for little kids.

Lot of fuckin rhythm games, oversized phone games, and claw games. The bowling balls are all painted like basket balls though, so the bowling is fun at least.

They usually only have the licensed (walking dead, jurassic park, etc.) light gun stuff which is not good at all. No real fightan last time I went, but that may be location specific.

depends on the size. Most have the same arcade games like some imports from japan that are usually rhythm games. Mine has fighting game cabinets for a bunch of new and older games. There's essentially a section for jap games, fight games, western games, claw machine and ticket games. Idk what that other guy is on about with the claw machines, my place they have games that almost give you a prize in a few tries and the employees are more than helpful when it comes to resetting machines when you win something.

they have cards that give you unlimited tries on certain machine too.

there's also bowling and karaoke. they do dollar ice cream or dollar beers during the weekdays to get people in. they also have decently priced snacks.

it's a cool place to chill at.

Expect to spend 15-30 dollars minimum, more if you want food or karaoke.

Last time I went I played this cool VR lightgun game where you put some goggles over your head and then you can bob, weave and even strafe a tiny bit
Was fun, but also got kind of paranoid about my bag when a BLACK PERSON came up to ask me something about the game, so I couldn't focus and had to keep taking off the headset to check if the black guy was stealing my shit

I'll be going as a solo autist so probably won't be bowling or karaoke but dollar beer sounds nice.

That's more reasonable than I expected. I was thinking $70ish.

my local round1 got some godzilla games. though one is a VR game and the other is one of those coin pusher ones.
the VR one isnt bad but its just your typical machine gun shooter type of arcade game.
right down to the "shoot the highlighted areas or else you will get hurt" kind of segments.

I played Time Crisis 4, 5 and House of the Dead Scarlett Dawn when I went. Not the most deep cut shit or whatever but I like them.

But the main reason I drove the 80 miles to mine before it closed was Maximum Tune 5.
>this nigga drives so he can pretend to drive skullemoji

They also had Initial D 8 and Outrun 2 SP in it's small Japanese form it was so cute had a CRT screen and everything.

On the rhythm side I did Sound Voltex and Miku.

Great place I miss it...

they have a very different selection when compared to arcades run by collectors
generally a lot of imports, sometimes with japanese accounts needed for games that use ranking systems and stuff
while so much is imported don't expect anything exotic like cho chabudai gaeshi though, it's more gonna be like sengoku basara and melty blood

This is very location specific. Mine has a street fighter 6 type arcade, Tekken machine, two nesica cabinets with KOF, Samurai showdown and Persona fighting whatever the fuck it's called, and some exarcadia things with mysterious games. And third strike.

Locations vary wildly. Significanly based on number of...youths neraby.

Arcades provide a service anon, which is making games available to you that you cannot play at home.
As much as I'd really like a home StepManiaX or DDR setup, that shit is bulky and expensive.
Or, I can load up an arcade card for 100 bucks and it'll last me months

to add to this arcades are a great place to hang out with friends or go on dates. its just a cozy atmostphere. im not happy that rd 1 raised their prices and the location by me made their claw machines a lot more rigged and harder to win, but its still a fun place to go.

Also they have a timeplay offereing where you pay like $10 and get unlimited play on almost every game that doesn't give out tickets or points or some shit for 90min. Cheaper than seeing a movie these days and a lot more enjoyable.

that resident evil game looks promising. if they added hunk i would go out of my way to find a way to play this. im not really a fan of the remake aesthetics so this looks like (for me) a 7/10 but with hunk it would be 10/10

also based NAMCO i havent heard about them in a while wonder what theyre up to these days? i remember going to a NAMCO arcade as a kid and i used to have some old pacman arcade tokens liying around before we moved.

The one that was near me in the US, I liked grinding for tickets on the Kung Fu Panda and Bop-it arcade machines. Also liked Outrun 2 SP and Gokujou Parodius when it was still there.

In Japan, I just like playing Bombergirl.

Beatmania IIDX is really fun. Recently got into it through buying Empress on the PS2, but I finally got the chance to visit Round1 last Saturday. I spent the entire evening through night playing just IIDX since hardly anyone wanted to play and when they did they just used the second cab next to me. Man using the actual arcade controller over the official PS2 IIDX controller is like feels like a whole different experience. I really gotta buy an Arcade accurate controller for home release. Arcade buttons and turn table feels so much better than the old PS2 IIDX controller.

They also just have a bunch of rhythm games in general which is the main reason to go. I find their fighting game selection to be ass. It's all just Street Fighter, Tekken, and Marvel shit. I don't know anything about racing games, so I can't really judge on that.

If you don't want to go all in on the big arcade controllers (which are really nice and awesome to have) you can also try and get the japanese PS2 controller, they got a way better version that actually feels good to play on compared to the shitty US one. Just look for the square one instead of rounded.

I do have the Japanese PS2 controller. I imported it along with Empress. It's usable, but the buttons feel really mushy and the turn table doesn't feel as slick as the arcade's.

Really? Going from US to JP the buttons were way more responsive and the turn was fine, perhaps the guy I got mine from had cleaned it up a bit, haven't ever bothered to check.

I fucking cried the day I learned Gameworks fully shut down in 2022
My local branch shut down in the 2010s and I always wanted to make the trip out to Vegas to play their official Sonic the Fighters cabinet and relive some of the fun I had as a kid but never found the time.
One of my high school dances was held at our local Gameworks location
I hope Round1 stays around for a long time and keeps the Arcade experience alive for the next generations to come
Anonymous No.717493053 >>717493387

Well I'm comparing the PS2 controller to the arcade. Not saying the PS2 controller wasn't responsive. It works fine, but I just don't like how it isn't clicky like the arcade and the table feels like you need to spin it a bit more to register a scratch and it stops when you let go.
Anonymous No.717493387

Mine was clicky and the turn was smooth, but yeah this is from the angle of having had a great PS2 controller, obviously my arcade controller feels much better.
