I preferred the Blade Combos of 2. The Ouroboros forms were cool but idk I also missed the QTEs from 1, X and 2. The Orbs mechanic from 2 was more fun too.

I liked the special attacks in 3 too though, when you 2 characters combine with a cool animation.

Fighting the consuls and freeing the colonies was definitely a bit boring and repetitive over the course of the story but apart from that the entire game was stellar and felt like a really good mix of the first two titles (no pun intended). Would put it right next to 2 personally since i can't really pick which one i like the most. DLC also was good as Torna if not better.

3 is one of those games where I get what they're going for but they didn't quite hit the mark

For me I like 1, 2, & X way more than 3.
Not even just restricted to JRPGs, 3 managed to become one of my most hated games.
I'll only give 3 the plus of having QoL features like the dash, water combat/jumping, changing characters on the fly, seeing your position in the UI, & having a boat. That's all I like.

I prefer the combat systems in 2 & Torna. It has more depth and the mechanics have more synergy. In general it was more satisfying to set up & break down orbs and perform blade/driver/fusion combos. I didn't it was necessary to use the ouroboros powers at all, and in 3 you don't even have to work to become overpowered, the story just gives you lucky seven.
3's setting was really bland and boring. With the most barebones worldbuilding compared to 1 and 2, and 3's characters reflect that by being some of the blandest personalities in the series.
Character interactions feel inorganic and stiff, and the romance is the most uncompelling in the entire xeno-series. The side-characters are also pretty annoying too, even more so than Tatsu.
1 & 2's settings just have a romance to them that isn't in 3 at all.

3's accessory system+gems felt bloated. Gem crafting in 1 was a lot of fun. Building up affinity with party members and filling out the collectopaedia too. There's a tactile satisfaction to 1's systems that I don't feel in 3.
Even the little things like how soulless 3's title screen is compared to 1 & 2 is annoying. Even 1 had a day/night cycle, and the post-game title screen is great. 2's title screen was different for every chapter, and both the base game and Torna had great post-game title screens as well.
I shouldn't have to explain 3's title screen, but it's practically a still image the whole game, and post-game they just add a hill in the corner with the main cast facing away so you can look at their asses, looking at absolutely nothing profound or interesting in relation to the story, and not moving in any way.

You are forced to sit there and watch them struggle. Noah is the one that's most affected and losing his mind over it. XC1 had amazing world design. You start off in a little town that's surrounded by nature, lakes, forests, and a huge cave. It's its own little world, and you find out later that it's all stuffed into a small crater in the Bionis' ankle. Then you've got the hueg plains of Bionis Leg, colony 6, and Satorl, and that's it. That's the entire world for the Homs. Alcamoth is basically heaven to them. Really makes the progression of exploration feel substantial.

I've only played 1 and this. 1 is probably my favorite jrpg ever, next to radiata stories. This one was just... I dont know, I fucking hated it. The combat felt flat, with zero feedback. I didnt get the same satisfaction from anything in this as doing a topple combo in one. The in combat voice audio in 1 is incredibly annoying, but was sort of fun to meme on. Adding three additional voices in xc3 that are all constantly shouting attack names and other shit crossed the line for me. I dropped 3 around the time they got to that castle or something. There were some elements of the plot I quite liked, but I just never started enjoying playing the game. I skipped 2 altogether, because I dont like the mc's design.

One thing I really liked in XC2 was how well fleshed out its elemental system was. You had a cast of blades that were all over-the-top characters who personified their element in a unique way. Elements could be combined in blade combos and had on-brand effects, like fire causing explosions, ice causing blizzards, earth causing earthquakes and floods, etc. Each element combo produces an orb and seal, and they all felt distinct.

NTA but I don't think it's just that. Typically the camera should focus on what the director wants you to pay attention to. If a character is in some kind of turmoil then the camera should focus on that characters expression so you feel what they feel. If a character has suffered a would then the camera should focus on the injury or at least the characters reacting to it. When you go to a new location, you almost always get an establishing shot so you get a feel for whatever this new place is.

But there is a dissonance when the scene is saying one thing but the camera is focused on another. An immediate thought I had was this scene here. In context, the characters are reacting to seeing visions of their predecessors marching to their deaths. To must of the cast, they're feeling uneasy because they know Yuna is next but the camera zeros in on Lulu's tits. For like 3 seconds too. It's like that joke about how camera angles in anime are weird, a character design can muck up a moment if it makes you pay more attention to a character's body rather than the words and feelings coming out of it.

I believe that this is the best in the series so far. Even better than XC2. If I had to rank the games, it would be in this order. XC3 > XC2 > XCX > XC1. I should make it clear that none of these games are bad BTW.

XC3 has plenty of QOL features and more. I don't know what the fuck some of you are talking about when trying to make the argument that the characters "suck." The only character who was fucked over in that game was Sena. And Soul Hacker was fun to fuck around with. And Future Redeemed might have the most satisfying way of progression I've seen in this series.

Although I love XC2, it's primarily because of the combat system, torna, and some of the blade quests. XC2's story really only gets great when you're in the end game. Most of the characterization is given to Rex, Mythra, Pyra, and Nia due to it being a harem. The rest of the party is thrown to the side when compared to these 4. And it pussies out at the end of the game when it comes to killing off certain characters. Which takes back some of the emotional impact it could've have.

XCX is lacking in the story department, but it works for what the game is. It's the only game in the series where you TRULY can explore anywhere, and it feels extremely dangerous because of the wild life. It is by far the most difficult game in the franchise. Yet I'd also argue that it has the most satisfying combat due to how much customization is involved. It does suffer from stupid crap like not being able to give up a character/main quest.

XC1 suffers from being the first game, but it's still an overall great game because of its story. But this game is definitely worse in the character department. Now only Shulk and Melia are given the most characterization. With the rest being okay at best, and just bad at worst.

If you want to oversimplify their character, sure. Each game typically starts off slow for characters to fully open up. Which especially includes XC3. This "Noah is bland argument" is also insanely tiring. He's supposed to be a stoic pacifist who's willing to take a lie if needed. I will admit that he relies on his connection with N when it comes to characterization, but that works pretty well.

Noah is really just the newest version of Noah. With the previous one going completely mad. He's a kind guy who admits that he'd probably end up doing the same as N if he went through the same events.

XC3 is subtle with their characterization. Which in return, actually makes them feel more real.
