Attacks missing just doesn't work in real time combat. It's fine in turn based because of the inherent abstraction, but the moment you press a button to swing your sword and it magically goes through an enemy it just seems like the game itself is broken.
Like imagine if Legend of Zelda had a 1/10 chance for attacks to miss.

There is tension here because the player can die.
It is perhaps too spooky for your generation to grasp - dying in a video game.
Any Morrowboomer knows you are not watching the fight, but the health meter and other mobs you had to crop out before autistically posting this for the 8,000th time.

Exactly. This only works in turn-based games. Morrowind combat was never good and Bethesda were retards for ever designing it this way. Luckily they realized their mistake quickly and none of the other ES games ever used this dumbass design ever again.

Low agility/skill. If you picked a reguard with conjuration as a major skill, their racial ability+the free conjured daedric weapon would instantly break the game. You can afford to pick the Steed, which is mandatory in Morrowind. You're only made to feel the world is big because you move so slow, but high-speed will make following directions hard.

Plus, this combat means that, as you learn how it works, enemies will eventually not be able to touch you, as opposed to Oblivion where you absolutely have to avoid leveling up.

witcher is based on gothic 1 and 2 u mongrel. CD Project red is the studio that did the polish localization for both and they talk a lot about how gothic was the blueprint for all witcher games.

in morrowind and oblivion you max every stat and skill and one shot everything as an armor wearing mage with an enchanted sword. that is simply normal. the only character progression play is figuring out how to most optimally get there. bethesdas shitty combat means nothing because they all become walking simulators at this point
