I buy chinese keys that were already paid for in the past. Global region unlocked, legit sites. That way Valve cannot make new money since the keys were already paid for. It's not like when you click on their shit site and they make a new copy out of thin air. Also I profit from globalism since chink keys never were full price to begin with. That way they earn even less.

>Have about 500 games
I should look at one of those stat sites but they will want me to login or unprivate my profile. Even that site that is like those public information scraping sites but for steam has nothing about my profile except the name. Anyway, most of the unplayed games I have were from humble bundles but I stopped grabbing those years ago. I'll occasionally browse my wishlist and pick up a game or two when it's dirt cheap. I usually end up playing those but there's a few there that I probably won't get around to playing. But I spent like 5 bucks on them so whatever. Anything I pick up at full price I'll play right then because it's something I was excited for like Monster Hunter or something. I'm not collecting them. I just.. have them. The ones I don't play either came in bundles or were just stupid cheap. I've thrown away some of my french fries when I get a burger and fries too. I think I only have two games that I've bought this year that I haven't got around to playing yet.

Whatever, it's a good problem to have. I have more games than I can possibly play. Better than buying a new console every 5 years for the privilege to play like 6 total games and none of the games I bought from a previous generation work anymore. Anything I bought 15 years ago I can still boot up and play no problem.

People buy a game to keep in their backlog and they expect to play it and enjoy the game at one point when it's on sale.
The thing is a game purchase isn't always done whenever you want to play videogames. A sale etc might draw your attention.

This doesn't work the same way for digital movies or Netflix because when people want Netflix or browse for something to watch on Netflix or a movie they want it right now. To consume. Post haste.

>Steam bros..... we're literally just a bunch of sheeple who have more money than sense. Jesus christ.

Two groups of people do it:

1 - People who genuinely have FOMO and buy slop, those with too much expendable cash, more money than sense, even if they buy them all on sale.

2 - people who want to get a high game count and Steam profile score. These people bulk buy games and/or by TF2 keys to boost their scores. Usually you will never see a high profile number with a low game count (like 300 profile score but only 10 games or something).

Whilst both of the buy on sale, the second type don't care about the game or playing it. They just care how good a deal they're getting.

They have no problem just searching for years-old games to get a baseline for it's historic low sale price point. Then just camp all those games with websites that notify when a
game reaches a sales threshold.

With years old games the devs also get desperate and just want to get a sale rather than nothing so put them at real low prices 80% off and higher. With the amount of games on steam you won't run out of choices as more games reach historic lows over time.

Incorrect. The collecting part is just due to sales being so good that they just haven't played them yet. Keyword, yet.

They buy them in the sales to have them readily available when they want to play them and also knowing they got it at a cheap price.

That's just how most people acquire huge libraries of games they aren't going to play. If you get a bundle of 10 games for $15 that's still paying $1-2 per game. Even if the one or two games you actually bought the bundle for only ever goes on a normal sale for $30.

I don't know why you're getting offended over the obvious. Paying $15 for a bundle that includes 9 other games vs paying $60 (or $30 when on sale) for the one game you're buying the bundle for is how people get huge libraries. This fact baffles console users because they don't get any of this and they're used to having to pay full price.

All Timmy had to do was not be a huge scumbag. Giving away free games to get their foot in the door was a great idea, spying on users Steam installs via EGS, paying people to slander Steam online (they admitted to this in their court case with Apple), buying up exclusivity rights to keep games off of Steam, trying to bully Steam into lowering their cut to 12% (which Timmy would later admit in court was unsustainable without Fortnite money), and of course their court case with Apple which turned out to be both fraudulent and premeditated and only served to embarrass themselves and air out a bunch of Epic's (and Sony's) dirty laundry and show to the entire world what a huge lying snake Timmy really was, were all REALLY FUCKING TERRIBLE ideas.

I worded it kind of poorly, but I meant he said EGS's own 12% cut was an unsustainable business model and was only possible for Epic because Fortnite more than made up for whatever they were spending elsewhere.

>Then they have the balls to constantly wonder why their big-budget slop ends up flopping.

Because the only thing that really matters is whether or not the game is good finds its audience. The vast majority of a game with mass market appeal is casual buyers. People who watch a trailer and then make their purchase decision. They don't read social media about the game, they don't follow any news, they don't keep up with industry events and they especially don't post on /v/. And if the game is made for those people and they like it, it's going to do well.

I have about 600 games in my library and have at least put time into 65% of them. I'm trying to clear out the remaining 180-ish games that I haven't even tried yet (100+ of them are free promotion games so oh well). My goal is to put at least a decent amount of time into them, but if I hate the thing I'm not going to bother finishing it.
