Minecraft should increase the stack limit and inventory slots. Those were added 15 years ago when even slabs, stairs, and tools weren't a thing and hasn't kept up with the thousands and thousands of items added since.

Every aspect of survival Minecraft is a bit shit. The game's main value is in being multiplayer computer legos with nice atmosphere. If you want it to be a proper game look into modpacks.
