the writing is really bad. I can't imagine giving a single shit about any of the targets and their deal, and the execution of the entire second half is botched. The main plotline is legitimately somehow significantly worse than 3 and 4 despite how flawed both of those were, it's insane they weren't able to iterate and improve on previous entries and instead fucked up even harder.
if you play in English you're reading a translation by people who clearly weren't good enough at Japanese to understand the original script at many different points and were just guessing, and somehow hundreds of instances of this were not caught in QC and some of them made it all the way to dub recording, immortalizing these mistakes since they haven't bothered to re-record these wrong lines as far as I know
the rpg gameplay is pretty braindead, you have very few opportunities to make interesting decisions because of how centralising hitting weaknesses is to worthwhile strategies, and the meta-gameplay of resource management is dragged out over monotonous, homogenous dungeons with very little in the way of mechanical interest
The social links are written pretty badly too, there are some real headshakers and unsatisfying stories being told there.
Also, morgana exists
