why is there a ranking system in a game thats entirely decided by luck?

i watch a master streamer constantly only get a+ and S rank from maka
still stuck in expert 3 due to huge loss stream + bad luck + people in gold room not falling for suji traps because they dont fucking even know what that is or calling a shitty riichi vs my good one and winning it which steals all my chances of getting first place

if you are master level player its actually a fucking chore to play against beginners

The only skill in online Mahjong is literally memorizing the confusing win conditions (literacy knowledge check), then the second one is being able to read the characters, third is all about discarding tiles others have discarded.

That being said, to reach expert all it took me was to realize I can’t win every hand and sometimes I shouldn’t even try.

No, just go for the fastest possible hand, that's the meta. Don't rely on Ron's they don't feed in, go for tsumo, keep your hand closed if you can call without riichi, don't even declare riichi they will fall for a hand without riichi.

I've been on a shit streak. Game simply won't let me win anymore, no matter what my starting hand looks like. Either I'm fucked from the start, or start off good just to lose to some luckshitter who calls tsumo 2 tiles in. I'm starting to lose will, I'm starting to feel like I have no choice but to ponmax, but I have to push onwards.

then the lose streak happened and iam now hardstuck expert 3
my skill is still the same heck id even say i got better in the game
but skill is worthless when everybody tsumos you hard
