Atelier Yumia
Now that the hype has died down, how do we feel about her game? It's on sale now on Switch

I bounced off Ryza because I didn't really like the combat system and didn't really like the crafting because I don't have experience with the franchise before and didn't really get what I was doing. Would I like Yumia better? I heard it has a different combat system and dumbed down alchemy.

I like the more mature looking protagonist. Cake should be appreciated and it's a good shakeup from Ryza who had a youthful vibe.

it sucks. Enough to make me seriously consider not bothering with the next atelier game.

It was really bad
Except for the story, the story was alright

Wait, really? Reviews seemed positive on Metacritic. What issues did you have with it?

My biggest criticism with Yumia is that the alchemy is the worst its ever been aesthetically and (almost) mechanically (Sophie 1 still takes the crown there)
Ryza 3 already destroyed the concept of "the atelier" by making them fungible buildings instead of a distinct location, but at least with Yumia that comes with the benefit of more open ended base building.
I'm tired of the "bajillion ingredients" alchemy of Ryza and Yumia and am glad that the upcoming Resler spinoff seemingly just requires 4 ingredients.

The alchemy is completely disconnected from everything but the combat and the combat is uninteresting because the enemies are weak and all work the same, you'll spend more time interacting with Ubislop ?s on the map and doing shitty pipe puzzle over and over than you will thinking about your alchemy traits, none of the quests require anything above quality 0, you don't make anything to help you gather better, you just farm stupid particles in the open world by running between two points over and over and then get skills out of the skill tree, it's Atelier in the name only

I beat the final boss and the game crashed on me during the cutscene afterwards.
That pretty much sums up my experience

way way way too easy, even on the highest difficulty
crafting has been massively simplified to the point that you can literally press autocraft and make maxed out items. It doesn't even feel like an atelier game anymore.
Combat difficulty is also low and once you make a single attack item you'll be one shotting enemies. Which isn't that strange for the series, but usually there's at least some kind of post game that requires a bit more effort but Yumia has no such content. Or it would at least require effort to make said item but again you just use autocraft and the game makes it for you.
The open world is fairly uninteresting but if you like wandering around and picking up shit you don't really need I guess it's fine. The story is kind of lame and the trailers making it sound like everyone would hate Yumia is only for the first few minutes and then they're all okay with her.

I'm sad. The game has really cute girls so I wanted anons to tell me it was fun so I could buy it.

You should have to use alchemy to solve environmental puzzles and quests. I don't get why it's so hard for them to figure this shit out.

You can just auto the craft. I never clicked with Ryza too but I like Yumia. Exploration is better and battle is straight action compared to whatever Ryza was. It feels like such a jank that I prefer turn based compared to that.

God tier character designs but everything else is bad.

The demo put me to sleep within 30 minutes so I don't have high hopes. Yumia and Nina will forever be trapped in a shitty game.

I can't believe they tried to sell this to people for $80.

See, this is what I'm interested in. I understand a lot of longtime fans are disappointed with where the series is at but I'm curious if new players without those same expectations about what an Atelier game is will like it.
Anonymous No.717510396 [Report]
It was mediocre at best. An atelier game with such a simplified and trivial alchemy system wasn't going to please the fans. The combat system was broken, making shit to easy even on harder difficulties. The new Resna game looks way more promising.
Anonymous No.717510820 [Report] >>717511002
Lets be real, with Ryza the franchise reached a "fake" peak. Casuals who never played any Atelier game were spoiled and Reisalin is impossible to top in the seggs scale. The only thing left is maybe get remasters/remakes of old entries.

I still can't put my finger on what makes Ryza such a peak design, but I agree.

it's average, perhaps slightly below. It made the same mistakes as ryza 3 while having worse alchemy.
>level scaling for literally everything except bosses
>shit tier loot/rewards for actually exploring, to the point i got the same garbage weapon from 2 chests in the same treasure room
While the kind of "open world" they used here isn't inherently bad, and I'd say that the xenoblade games are the only ones that handle it with any kind of reasonableness: you can get btfo if you try to explore above your power level, but you are also equally rewarded for doing so.

The "alchemy" in yumia is absolute trash though, I wouldn't even call it alchemy when it's literally dupe and spam rainbow puniballs once you get them, because it's basically a universal fill all.

The people who are making mainline games have no idea what they're doing.
Now the Azurlane people, they know what we want.

There was nothing "peak" about her design. It's at best mid.

I’m playing Rorona and can’t imagine myself touching any other Atelier game desu. Everything’s so mediocre and I don’t get enough dopamine rush from crafting.
