Are you enjoying the /YEAR OF THE MUSOU/?

>Dynasty Warriors: Origins sold over a million within a month
>Recieved high praise from critics, even people who prevously seen it as a joke franchise
>Abyss dropped out of nowhere with loads of free updates
>Some tendie musou game confirmed
>Major DLC for Origins in the works
>Old DW game getting remastered for modern platforms, probably DW5
>Origins part 2 up to Wuzhang Plains is all but confirmed, based on the directors previous comments

Origins being a success has felt like a rebirth for the whole genre, we're gonna be eating well for a long time. After the origins sequel we will probably get an Empires release to cap it off, and then a "DW10" with the traditional big roster during the PS6 gen of gaming.

I have high hopes (copes) for this DLC. I want playable characters/free mode. Also customizable MC but that's not likely to happen because the director is a faggot (real one).

I am not optimistic about the remaster at all though. This is KT. They're monkeys. They don't know how to code so they'll fuck it up somehow. They can't even properly port new games (see DW8XL and SW4-II) let alone old ones. Also they might ruin it with "modern fixes" like what Capcom did to Onimusha. Or God forbid they might "remaster" it with UE5 skin like they did with NG2B.
All they have to do is package DW3/4/5 with XL and Empires into one HD pack with native 4K rendering. Maybe also a Japanese voice option. That's it. But again, they're monkeys so they'll find a way to ruin it.

abyss is pretty fun for what it is, nothing really mind blowing but if you enjoy games like vampire survivors or hades and are a big fan of musou it will be enjoyable, it definitely has the feel of a budget title though, i'd wait for a sale, give it a couple hours and see if you want to refund or keep it

They should let blue point do it. The musou games need more realistic faces, more diversity and less same faced pretty doll-like anime people (its immersion breaking)-- ac shadows is out, so all the dynasty warriors even the newest one look pretty dated visually. The series has an icky 2000s anime residue it needs to get rid of.

And a post game with a flipped map and some collectibles would make these games a lot more replayable.

I doubt they'll revoice anything. It'll be basic visual improvements like 4k support, longer draw distance, more troops being able to render on-screen at once, some shader stuff like ambient occlusion, and basic QoL improvements like free targeting while attacking like in the later games.

I'll probably still play the emu versions because of all the mods made for them, like making troops more aggressive etc.

I too would like a DW spin-off that was more realistic/simulation based. Like you're part of an actual army on a dynamic battlefield instead of a hero who does everything.

It would be a complete chance of pace however so it would need to be it's own game and not the mainline DW franchise.

bait aside I'm not going to completely disagree with it, much to your chagrin

DWO is already much grittier and muddier looking than the last 4 games but it's uneven in that sense. Lu Bu's armor looks good (after so long) and characters that got redesigned to be more gritty and grounded (like Guan Yu) look pretty good and fitting. Ziluan's subdued attire should've been a visual cue for the rest of the cast to follow. But it's not. So you still get retarded, silly looking characters like Han Dang and Xu Chu that now stick out even more for looking like retards. The game is in this ugly mismatched limbo, where half the cast is more subtle and gritty while the rest are reused DW9 slop assets.

Pick a lane. What I would honestly prefer at this point, for a change, is the Wo Long's dark art direction. Those designs were insane. Very much drawing from historical armors but still with a lot of spice. Dong Zhuo's Wo Long design being his absolute peak in all of media. The dude was a fat tyrant that used to be an incredibly competent soldier and general - he wasn't just a hateful fat cunt.

As for anime doll girls in DWO - Ziluan is unironically cuter despite being a guy. And they accomplished that by making him look more realistic and Asian. So yes, they should also face scan people for more realistic look, like Team Ninja does.

I want the 8 bodyguards from 3&4 back that are wrecking-balls and you can customize. We get the 50 guards in origins, but its very impersonal. You're so strong you don't need them and you don't really notice them outside of their tactics.

So combine the two. Give the player the 8 bodyguards we can level up and customize who become aggressive, elite warriors. And the 50 bodyguards in origins, just don't call them bodyguards. Just make them a formation that follows the player that we can command with the tactics.

Fun fact: in the early games officers (including the player if you played as an existing officer of the stage) had two sets of troops would would follow you around wherever you went, as well as your bodyguards. This was sadly removed in the later games and a lot of players didn't even notice it was happening in the early games because they just didn't pay attention to the simulation side of the games.

They're not going to add a character creator when it's already all but confirmed the sequel will be a CC instead of playing as ziluan. It's a clear selling point so they're not gonna stick that in a DLC.

And they're not going to release an empires as a DLC when they can release an empires as a stand-alone title like they always do, and secondly origins has nowhere near enough stages and characters for it to really work. That's why people think they will wait until after the sequel before releasing an Empires, since then they will be able to combine the stages and characters from both origins titles into it

This DLC will be an XL release in all but name. New hypothetical routes for at least Lu Bu, more weapons, more skills, more companions etc.

>I don't know how Koei mogged Cloud Strife this hard
Simple: Cloud has ugly deep-set eyes, which is a residue of anime style designs that only somewhat worked in highly stylized 3D anime graphics. But the more realistic you make everything else to be, the more uncanny this 3DCG style looks. Especially on more lithe, feminine, androgynous characters; because deep-set eyes are inherently a masculine, mature trait.

If your character is manly, like Jin Kazama or Kiryu from Yakuza or the recent example of Soul from Phantom Blade Zero, then deep-set eyes can at least look like they fit with the character.

But if your character is more on the young and androgynous side, cute even, then giving him these frowny sunken gaunt eyes takes away from the neotenous look and just makes the design language look more disjointed.

Ziluan sidesteps this problem by having normal Asian eyes. Not just surface but with proper lids and folds. His eyes only appear deeper when he's frowning in musou attacks because they did their homework with facial nodes animations.

Pic related, the gaunt eyes scale. See how this character trait works for the manly guys but falls short on Cloud? Also notice just how different Ziluan's eyes as a whole are.
Zilly is just cuter overall, simple as.
Anonymous No.717529393
>>717528631
We'll just have to wait and see. It's the number one complaint/request and retconning Ziluan as customizable would make it easier on them for the sequel. Sequel still isn't deep in development, so it's not too late. This way they could keep Zilean and the retarded OC characters plot point/perspective instead of having to make yet another original protagonist AND having to deal with Zilean, this mute characterless donut, just existing as an incredibly important character on the side.

It's not like it would be hard. Fucker is mute anyway and from the interviews even in mid-development they had the proposition to make him customizable. Sho just liked his Coldsteel the Hedgehog too much to allow that.

You do have quite a lot of movesets if you consider all the weapons and skill combinations, but you miss the thing where you play other characters, decide this one is too shit to play, this one is fun, and then play them. It's weapons based now, and desu I had issues determining which skill is good and which is trash because there isn't a good way to test it out, what works against mooks might turn out to do no damage to a general. The sequel is probably in the works or at least the planning stage already even if its not officially confirmed, Sho has talked about it way too much. in a post-origins interview Sho also mentioned the team being big enough to work on more than one title at a time, so they're probably split between origins DLC & origins part 2 right now. There's also the remaster, but that can be done with just a few devs as it's likely just a straight port with higher resolution support etc.

DWO has problem with movesets and variety. They're all distinct and mostly unique in their mechanics, yes but some are more fleshed out than the others. Which is noticeable because there's so few of them to begin with and half are unfun. And on top of that you only have 1 faggot character so it all gets dull quickly.
DWO, despite being the most mechanically complex musou game in terms of combat, will likely become one of my least revisited musou games because the appeal of cool RotK characters is removed and combat, despite being vastly improved over other entries, is not DMC-tier deep enough to keep me compelled.

DW9 was so catastrophic for the franchise (movesets so unusable WO4 uses DW8 characters despite coming after DW9 lol AND Abyss ignoring it too) it needed a complete reimagining of combat mechanics. And this effort forced them to remove one of the most appealing aspects of these games - characters.

Again, if DLC/XL re-release doesn't address this then Origins will just fade away with unrealized potential.

Nah, you maybe just put the right heroes in your team. You should get those who boost your playable characters and/or team's emblems. Let's say you're a Brave General and you see Ujiyasu Hojo, it'd be good to get his tactic and boost yourself, and then put several brave generals (and shinobi if he's transcended) in your team. Try to spend karma on weapons for guys you like because you will be finding a lot in chests, transcend guys who get an additional emblem or name, like Hojo. Getting mostly the same element in your team and +120% element damage like Gan Ning, Yukimura, Cao Pi or Ma Chao is also good. Enma is cute, but he is quite dumb at picking your team, so I suggest taking the matter into your own hands at some point. By the way characters that generate money like Goemon, Sun Shangxiang, Gracia can be awesome. Just unequip them before the boss fights, unless you can do it with them in which case you should

It was very clearly a rush job to try and recoup after DW9 crashed and burnt and I expected as much going in but it just felt so hollow presentation wise. 3 had a little hub, there was a more non linear approach to things, it felt like it just had more OOMF to it. WO4 almost feels like, and I hate to use this comparison, but it feels almost like a gacha game in terms of presentation.

>Cloud would be better if he turned that frown upside down
Yes I was about to add that this isn't an expressions/animations problem. It's a model and art direction problem.
Jin, Kiryu, Cloud, Wolf etc. all have permanent frowns because their eye sockets are simply super deep. They can't have any other expression since that's their model/bone. Ziluan's character model "cheats" because when he frowns, the animation nodes on his eyes area either bulge the brow ridge or push the eyes in, like in OP's pic >>717507338 (OP) giving him more expressions when in and out of combat. Meaning when he's sad and you pull the model's brows on the outside it's more noticeable that he's emoting sadness - because his neutral face has normal eyes.

This problem of deep-set eyed characters stems from trying to translate cool anime eyes into realistic 3D models - it just doesn't work. It's also related to a fact that Japanese devs also love this type of look because most of them are Gen X/old Millennials that grew up with macho icons like Sugawara Bunta, Toshiro Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai etc. which had deeper eyes than usual AND would constantly squint in their most iconic scenes in samurai and yakuza movies. Again this -can- work in manly characters like Kazuya Mishima, Jann Lee and Kiryu but it does not mesh well with young pretty boys like Cloud in realistic looking FF7 Remake. If everything was more anime and stylized, like in Kingdom Hearts, then his look wouldn't be so uncanny.

tl;dr Asian devs need to embrace the fact that they do not have strong brow ridges like their favorite 60s mob boss. Pic related, how they want to look on top and how they look when facescanned. They have neotenous Asian eyes and the sooner they embrace that the sooner they'll be able to shift to their peak performance advantages (their cute young looks) - which is what they did with Ziluan.

In their resting face their eyes are hooded like pic related Mifune on the right. Well Tatsuya Nakadai (left) had deeper eyes I guess. What a unique looking man, eve among non-Asians.

MUA3 is mostly button-mashing with co-op fluff layered on, but Abyss gives you actual build variety and decision-making mid-run. Think more like "what if Hades and Musou had a baby but it inherited the ADHD of Vampire Survivors."
