3D world has fun levels from beginning to end and a challenging star world, also very easy to play co op online with no strings attached like wonder had making you play as ghosts in each others lobby or some shit (why)

No, 3D world revisionism is the real contrarianism. Nobody liked this game that much when it came out on Wii U. Switch secondaries got their hands on it after Mario had finally gone back to its 64 roots with Odyssey, and they ate it up.

Still the best "recent" Mario soundtrack. Super memorable, well-performed big band tunes, back to back bangers.
Odyssey had a great OST, but it gets points off for being half more ambient shit.
Wonder has the worst soundtrack of any 2D Mario game, I can only remember like two new melodies from it.
And Mario Kart World's soundtrack is expansive, but again, it's 90% remakes of old tunes, and the new tunes just aren't all that catchy or distinct.

Odyssey, Sunshine, and 64 are a different experience than 3D World and don't really apply to the conversation. Galaxy has its moments, but is a less consistently good experience than 3D World I think. Galaxy actually belongs in the discussion though, I'll give it that, since it's basically a flagpole Mario game just without a timer.

Why was it called 3D World when it wasn't any more 3D than the previous 3D marios?

I always preferred 3D Land over 3D World because its more optimized for a single player adventure. I even say Bowser's Fury is better than most parts of 3D World. 3D World is not a bad game as I did have some fun with it but its the worst one when compared with the 3D "Trilogy " I just mentioned.

I really don't see the hype. The missions are just okay and the main gimmick of giant Bowser attacks were more of an annoyance than anything else. It's usually a scramble to remember where those blocks only he can break were left, either that or he gets knocked away instantly from the shine I was two seconds from grabbing before he jumped in, or we fight in a boring slow paced boss battle.

playing 3D World with 4 people seems like what the game was designed around. its still fun if you play through by yourself. maybe thats why its got a contentious legacy.
