They have tried multiple times. The thing that killed humans attacks the souls and humans were born with out souls and quickly died.

So I’m assuming the whole Nier Replicant thing somehow protects the souls if they are outside the body? Doesn’t that mean Replicant was doomed into a bad ending regardless of Nier’s actions suiciding the Shadowlord since the disease would come back in full force decimate the fused mankind?
