ffxi might be too slow but i think its ok. I dont think anythings wrong with ffxiis combat. xiii is actually kinda ass. I think ffxivs combat is fine but the dungeons suck. I dont know enough about xv or xvi to comment on them. As a hack n slash action fan, i thought 7r's combat was a let down but i also just hate remakes and the art direction basically everything about 7r.

I don't think anything he says is wrong, but it's not like there's a magic solution on Square's part. They always relied on production value in FF making up for other shortcomings, and at no point has that strategy changed, but hitting those production values has become exponentially more expensive while the industry has become exponentially more crowded and competitive. We've reached a point where being big doesn't matter unless you're the biggest.

FF still pushes bigger numbers than Expedition 33, and dramatically slashing the budget would just kill what's been propping up the franchise the entire time and tank sales defeating the point. Square's business model isn't working anymore, but Expedition 33's success isn't really a success to any AAA company either. You can't just pump out a bunch of smaller high quality projects because the market is already oversaturated and you just create more and more competition with yourself. AAA studios are basically forced to go bigger or go home, and Square will probably end up going home.

ffxiii combat was good. great even. 7, 8 and 9 could be beaten by just attacking with no strategy. people have nostalgia goggles on as usual. x was when they started actually designing the combat properly

Dude's out here saying 9 and 10 have good combat systems? 9's absolute biggest problem is how awfully slow it's combat is, to the point that it almost ruins the entire experience. 10 fans think that being able to see turn order is gods gift, but buffs and debuffs being permanent and character differences being minimal outside of limit breaks, who thought giving bruddah a limit that hits 16 times was okay while Kimahri is stuck jerking off into his own mouth?

I'm not sure why being able to fast forward XII's combat is seen as a negative when the real meat to it is setting up gambits. FF gameplay usually isn't noteworthy to begin with outside of a handful of titles like V so being able to fast forward and automate one of the weaker parts of the games is quite nice.

X is one of the best games of all time. XIII isn’t that good but still underrated. XVI was a huge pile of shit, real misstep on square’s part, if XVI is what the series is gonna be now that’d be a real shame, though it didn’t do that well so hopefully they abandon their plans.
