Authentic versions of these are expensive. Ebay and Amazon are flooded with fakes. And I actually think this is big problem because people buy a "new sealed" Xbox 360 controller, and it's super shit, and they think "this is just how old games were things are better now", but it's not true.

I almost fell into this trap. I got a "new" controller since my old one from college was demolished after countless Gears of Halo Duty hours, and I just couldn't play for shit. The sticks were awful. And I just wrote it off like "damn nostalgia goggles huh"...

Wasn't unil later I researched tells on fakes and got an authentic one and I played through singularity no problems.

It's worth nothing they have fixed "off center dots" and the Microsoft seal is VERY close now. So it's even more difficult now.

At this point I just wouldn't buy any under $80.

XBone controller improves on it in every way, including a god tier d-pad, but unfortunately they used a cross shaped pad which can dig into your thumb easily.
Series X went back to the circle shape pad while keeping the same metal pad connectors. It's peak comfy and the best d-pad I've ever used. Never even needed to do fixups on it either and I've owned one since it came out. Had to replace the shitass usb-c connector once already, and switch membranes 2-3 times, but the d-pad is indestructible.

>>717525091
It was god tier in 2005 when it came out, since the only other competitor was the USB Sega Saturn controller released in japan only, and the Playstation pad which required adaptors and was a fucking joke as always.

It's only major issue was the d-pad which was... it worked, but wasn't any precise. Series X fixed that in an overkill manner though, it now has the most solid d-pad ever made on a controller. Wish they'd just make the analog sticks and triggers hall effect based, and the membrane for the face buttons easier to switch out.

I somehow doubt that since they use XInput so you can just plug them in and they'll werk. That was the entire point of XInput, since before that you had every controller using a different layout (d-pad could be buttons, POV hat, share the analog stick, etc etc etc).

It feels good in the hand but the piece of shit battery compartment is what kills it. I have 3 of them and I had to swap to a chargeable battery pack because the charge sockets or the plastic button that holds them togheter in the regular ones always fucking break so easily, making the controller disconnect if you move it around slightly or if it vibrates. Sucks because the controller has a nice heft when you have the regular batteries in.

>What the fuck made chinese manufacturers so paranoid about how analog sticks work
It's a combination of pouncing on a window of opportunity opened by the joycon drift class action lawsuit, and iterating with "new and improved" sticks and controllers so they can keep selling new products despite that.
>chink capacitive sticks
I've been wondering what the deal with these is. K-Silver's had them since the start of the year, but until now they've only been available in PXN P5 8K, the stick module has an extra pin so it doesn't fit other controllers' boards, and neither K-Silver or PXN elaborate on its functionality beyond antidrift.

Most of that was done while modelling the 1 button per direction stl files. I just remixed it all.
To try the other anons idea, Ill just shrink the grey bit so it moves, join the buttons to it and add a pivot to the bottom.

As it stands I can do more complex stuff with this d-pad than I can with my keyboard.

it's a whole mess actually. the letter layout matches the dreamcast layout, but the color layout is different from both. Dreamcast took the color layout and just turned it clockwise, Xbox flipped the colors but kept the same letter layout as the dreamcast.

I ended up putting hall effect sticks in mine, the left stick didn't break as such it just mechanically lost its centre, I read that the replacement sticks were poor so put hall ones in instead.

Dualshock was 80% the same as the SNES until they decided to implement the N64's analog stick concept.

The prototype version of the Dreamcast controller had the 6 buttons. so they took 2 buttons away at the last second

The d-pad is atrocious.

If you're looking for something similar as a general use/emulation controller - the hori switch pro controller is basically the same EXCEPT the dpad on it is excellent.
