I love them, specially Hexen but unless they made some amazing improvements I can't see this being a good deal.
Do play them if you're interested, you can get the wads on the internet and use GZ for modern features.

My Grandpa on my mom's side loved these fucking games. When we'd go to visit, he had a "den" that was just his computer room. He had DOOM and Redneck Rampage and Heretic and Hexen. I think he had 1 or 2 others too. He was pretty cool for a Grandpa, looking back. Anyway, his favorite was Hexen, and that's actually my favorite too. Haven't played in decades though.

Were these sprites hand drawn or pre-rendered from 3d models? If they were drawn they're truly some god tier pixel art.

last time i installed doom 1+2 because it said it had online play and it turned out to be garbage and crashed often you are probably better off with a source port

I used to have that same problem. And it occasionally still does if you menu really fucking fast. But at least it doesn't crash now when you hit the exit switch/linedef. It's fine. The wad browser is good now and you can easily play co-op and deathmatch from any wad you download.

How many good wads we looking at for heretic or hexen? Probably can't be more than a few dozen.

Eh, the only egregious moment in hexen 2 was one of the hidden rooms in act 3 that's hidden behind a breakable wall. Every other breakable wall in the game has some sort of tell or hint that you could break it, but this one doesn't.
Outside of that it's all pretty reasonable.

Purely handrawn. Doom and Blood used real life models digitized and Douk and shadow Warrior used 3D computer models made into sprites. Raven took the hard path and made them purely sprite based.

they made it also they changed the maps under enhanced mode so it isnt fucking levers and shows what is missing, but keys and such, so some maps like the cathedral got some cool looking dragon coin keys.
Also heretic enhanced mode really enhances the visuals of the maps
they didn't fuck around with these two.

There's also a new stage prop in Hexen that lets you swap classes mid-campaign.

And for tweaks for Heretic, they licensed and implemented most of the Wayfarer's Tome mod - I don't know what any specific differences are, but this is the baseline for the enhanced gameplay.

yeah, they really made this with care, pretty much on par with Quake 2 and the latest doom release.
Again, i hope someone puts HUMP over it to see how the monster changes affects that
