I'm still convinced that Bungie probably wrestled back the rights to Destiny fully and Activision was just okay with it. First game made tons of bank despite its mixed reception, and it still was a pre-live service game so it wasn't like they were investing in nonstop updates all the time. D2 made tons of bank but they also just as likely burned away most of that profit by trying to fix it with Forsaken, not to mention that they had two other support studios at that time. And with its jump into a live service title, and considering what was known about Bungie's studio culture pre-lay offs, Activision's bean counters undoubtedly read the writing on the wall and realized that this company would put them in the red despite the Destiny IP being far less profitable than Call of Duty.

I still don't quite get the artstyle they are trying to achieve, why go for "mass produced and expendable cyborg bodies" route but also have personalized bodies and rave girl looks on some of them? Not that the boxy ones look any better, but they at least fit the feel of "mass produced".
