People who complain about the story played this game with the butchered localization that made the characters inconsistent (the worst one has to be Xander). Some retarded, literal who youtubers then gave their opinions and blamed the writers, not the translators. There was then controversies with muh incest and muh gay conversion therapy so people who never played the games at all also started giving opinions. And on top of that the story is inspired by stories that are popular in Japan and Asia in general that aren't well known in the West, like the spider string, which makes the invisible kingdom being changed into some Ancient Greece parody utterly nonsensical when you see how Buddhism was a huge inspiration. The localizers tried to do that despite the final boss in Rev wearing a mask representing Buddha's face with no ambiguity whatsoever.

The mere fact that you say the plot is that Corrin and Azura conquer Hoshido specifically to prove that Garon is evil shows how even just changing some of Xander's lines ruined everything for everyone. They don't plan to actively wage war against Hoshido. They just go with the flow because they either obey Garon or get executed. The plot is pretty much "hey, since we're stuck in that shithole called Nohr and we're forced to invade Hoshido, we might as well try to exorcise Garon later". The Nohr siblings never, ever plan to stop Garon because while they don't want to go to war, they feel like they have to, it's their duty, and betraying Garon, their abusive father, would mean betraying the whole country and being executed by their batshit insane father. In the Japanese version, Xander never, EVER contradicts Garon or tells him to not kill people and to go easy on prisoners, he just shuts the fuck up, obeys, and hates himself for it. A lot of lines were added to make him seem like he actively wants to stop Garon because that's more marketable but he doesn't want to do anything at all.

I still haven't seen a legit argument of why the story is le bad in Conquest. Pretty much every shot at it seems to come from people who didn't beat the game and then either imagined the rest of the story in their heads or watched someone on social media have a whine compilation about it. Their shitposts usually boil down to "The story is bad because Garon is evil". Which is the dumbest thing because Garon is shown to be very obviously evil from Chapter 4 in the prologue or so (before you even pick Conquest), but these imbeciles think the describing the premise of the story is a brilliant critique of its faults.

It's like saying "the story in The Witcher is bad because Geralt is cynical". It's such an autistic way to complain about something, it really fails to convince anybody else but the autist will insist it is some genius commentary. Kinda reminds me of Pokefags saying "That Pokemon design is bad because it is literally a *description of the Pokemon*". So stupid and so selfishly autistic.

The biggest legitimate knock against Fates is how many sheer contrivances that seemingly just exist to make the story happen. Corrin and Azura can't reveal the truth about Garon because of a convenient curse. Corrin avoids killing innocents until he suddenly can't because we need a sad moment. Hoshido has a magic truth revealing throne and Garon sits on it because we're at the end of the game and something needs to happen to resolve the Garon plot thread. It gives the story a rushed feeling where nothing seems to be informed by character and nobody is allowed to have a genuine emotional arc.

I don't know who's denying it at this point. Engage got like 37 units last year, which is 6 more than 3H did in Book 5, when it had two CYL winners.

Firene unit bases are just really really low overall, so investing into Boucheron feels bad when he's not bringing anything special to the table AND he uniquely needs a lot of help to get going because his strength base and growth are really fucking bad. However, he is an Engage unit, which means he's more than salvageable with enough effort. Its just that amount of effort seriously restricts the amount of early game projects you can have.
