Zelda was never a particularly interestting game, it was a dumbed down version of early CRPGs like Rogue, Gauntlet and Ultima, all games you're better off playing now. Hell even Yoda Stories is better than NES Zelda.

people forget this, Zelda was an attempt at casualizing Dragon Quest, it was refered to as an RPG back then before the genre split into action adventures
