Whether you love him or hate him, you have to admit that Jon Blow has the right attitude to be an independent creator and is extremely dedicated to his work and craft and is willing to give everything in his life for his goals.

He's the most based programmer alive. He would be the second most if Terry Davis were still with us.

idk of course i am worried about the success of my games during my lifetime
because they will make a difference in my ability to do more or less of "God's Work" as he puts it
if i make 1k dollars from a game vs 100k dollars makes a big difference in my ability to invest more time into doing the thing I love
do I care about making 10 million dollars? no i suppose not. not in the same way. it would be nice to win the lottery but it's not something i NEED to be satisfied with my mission

Is the attitude spending 20 years on one game and having nothing to show for it?

Jon Blow has released 2 critically acclaimed and commercially successful games already. Very few indie devs can claim to his level of success. In fact, I think only Notch, Concerned Ape Scott Cawthon and Toby Fox are the ones who can still outclass him. And those 4 are literally the unachievable cream of the crop.

Braid was a massive fluke from an era where any indie game would've succeeded.
Witness is pretty good yeah.

I have fantasized so much about quitting my job and working on my gamedev projects homeless. I literally don't give a shit if they make money or not. I just don't want to starve to death or not have a backup if my laptop dies.

that's like saying "The Witness is just a line puzzle game". You know there will something mind blowing about the game that will make everyone talk about it for years

he has lots of stuff disabled in the stream version, including graphics and visual effects. When asked about his marketing plan he said he couldn't reveal it yet, but it's something special

Braid wasn't very good, but The Witness was amazing.
