As far as budget controllers go, they're okay. At least they have hall-effect sticks so they're less likely to drift over time, and this works fine for Xbox third person games and retro collections. That said the range of motion for the sticks kind of sucks on this controller, and I have no clue if its like this for all their controllers or if its just this one impacted.

Their d-pads have been known to be the most oversensitive pieces of shit since forever (I can personally vouch for the Ultimate BT being oversesitive as fuck). You can look up any of their controllers and find people complaining about d-pad sensitivity issues.
Other than that they're ok, a bit on the smaller side in terms of size, they definitely feel cheap compared to other controllers.

They're... just okay. Quality-wise, of course, they don't feel anywhere near as premium as something like an X-box or Playstation controller but that's kind of expected for 3rd party. The Pro 2 I bought will sperg out and disconnect randomly for some reason when playing games, and that's with with it plugged in which is why I'm not too impressed with it.

Bought an Ultimate 2 a week or two ago and have really liked it so far. I've seen people list the clicky D-pad as a negative, but I prefer it to the d-pads I'm used to. The controller's more or less the perfect size for me, but I have baby hands so I don't know if someone with normal-sized hands would find it as comfortable. It's about the same size and shape as the Switch Pro controller, for anyone looking for a comparison

I started using 8bitdo controllers from early on because I'm a big fan of the SNES controller, especially the d-pad.
The earlier units definitely had their issues, like the membranes under the d-pad and face buttons getting damaged and causing buttons to become unresponsive, or the rubber coating on the analogue sticks wearing out. Luckily contacting their support email at the time, they were cool and shipped out replacement parts free of charge and doing the replacement was easy.

Over time, I'd say since the SN30 Pro 2 in particular, their quality control seems to have gotten a lot better. I used the original Pro 2 (PS1 style) for a good many years and had no issues with it, and then switched to the Hall Effect updated model about 10 months ago and that one also works great. It did however need a firmware update to fix a full-range calibration issue with the sticks, but that was trivial.

The important thing about 8bitdo's controllers for me is that they fulfil a niche of retro and indie games that Nintendo's official controllers do not. The Switch 1 and 2's Pro Controllers have a pretty crappy d-pad, but are otherwise great for a lot of modern games. The Pro 2 I'm using for indie stuff or d-pad focused games.
Tetris 99 for example, I have to use a Pro 2 for that, Switch Pro controllers are terrible at Tetris and are prone to causing accidental hard drops because of the awkward d-pad placement and overly sensitive diagonals.

yeah, pretty good
i tried a few controllers recently before settling on the 8bitdo ultimate bt
found the xbox controllers okay, but they are locked to xinput
found the ps controllers pretty nice, but with a laughable battery life, and the built in audio device was really annoying
found gamesaar pretty good, but they looked too hardcore gamer
the ultimate bt ticked every box, tri mode connectivity, sufficient battery, cheap enough, hall effect sticks, gyro available (although i needed to patch the software to make it work in 2.4ghz mode)
my only real gripes are that the one i bought doesnt have anti friction rings around the sticks, which i never realised was a thing until they were missing, apparently they have a new revision that fixes this oversight tho, i might replace mine if i get around to it

Pro 2 is pretty much "you get what you pay for". Inconsistent d-pad diagonals, awful stick input delay, the trigger curves are awful by default and feel nothing like a first-party controller. Eventually mine started having a problem with the stick inputs jittering when the controller is vibrating. I replaced it with a 2C and that one is actually good, and cheaper too.

The thing that kills them for me most of all is that they're not QMK/Via compatible, especially since their software is unspeakably dogshit when it comes to keyboard configuration. It corrupts profiles and macros all the fucking time, making/editing macros is a pain in the ass, there's no layering support (unless it's there but unintuitive to find), and certain actions either don't respond to you at all or are ridiculously delayed.

The one and only legendary controller. Haters going to hate it but that design factor is based, all they need to fix is make the sticks less stiff and make the triggers have more range., add back buttons and perhaps the snoygger touchpad whilst keeping the select/start buttons. Otherwise they are on right tracks.

its fucking shit

i bought two ultimate 2C controllers for the switch 2

the right thumbstick broke on one, it just kept clicking further and further in when i pressed it until it started grinding and catching when trying to turn the stick

the second controller is starting to do it on the left thumbstick now

the sticks are creaky and plasticky and sounds like something is going to break apart if you press too hard

the buttons are INSANELY LOUD and rattly, the rumble in the controller makes them go apeshit and rattle louder than the game

never buying this shit brand again

They work, they're cheap, they give you exactly what they advertise on the box- and they're prone to snapping like a bitch if a child or pet is anywhere near them, while having dogshit d-pads. If you're a rage gamer, they may not last long.

And that's kind of the problem with the controller shit right now. You either get planned failure first-party shit that's just overpriced for what they offer, or you get cheaper third-party shit that has great value, but don't ever feel like the workhorse all-in-one you really want something to be.

Only have the 8 bitdo ultimate v1 but so far I like it. Sticks feel a lil cheap but atleast they wont have drift with the hall effect sensors. Cant go wrong if you just wanna dish out 50 bucks for a controller that will last. My shity xbox controller would feel good and all but would get stick drift after a few months. The dpad is super shity on this controller tho. Might have more luck with the new version of the controller but overall 8/10 would buy another one.

I have this one but it has the port where I cannot hook it up to the pc, it's bluetooth only. Do you know of any controlleers with the same size and feel? When I hold this controller it feels way better and more snug than my Xbox Series X controller or even DualSense. The Xbox 360 controller feels lighter too.

Got the wired snes controller for emulating and rpgm porn slop since it seemed like the best option for wired shit in the local shop I went to. Been about half a year and it still hasn't failed on me and works well enough.
The downside is that the constant slight signals from it won't let my pc sleep on it's own, although I also had the same issue with the previous wired controller I had. I also had to write autohotkey scripts for it to work with some shit since it can't switch to d-input like my last controller.

If it's proprietary shit, then manufacturers won't bother with it as they need to figure out the tech in a way that doesn't infringe on Nintendo's patents.
Apple is infamous for that btw because the possible returns are just too big to ignore for the more ballsy manufacturers and it often goes under the radar because they're popular.

I don't know what their obsession is with firm conductive rubbers. Shit's louder than some microswitches, and it results in brittle rubber that tears easily.
>the rumble in the controller makes them go apeshit and rattle louder than the game
Unless the 2C is more cucked than I thought you can probably turn down vibration strength with a button combination or software. Usually chinks default it to max when it's customizable.

Its pretty good. The new position for start/select is just retarded, good luck hitting select without also hitting the left stick.

Also for some goddamn reason the stick border RGBs randomly go back to the fire-red option. Like I'm playing something and they just turn from my custom blue setting to the red.

Rubber membrane d-pad and it feels like a much better version of the 8bitdo Pro 2 d-pad, which itself feels like a much better version of the Dualshock 4 d-pad. "Good for anything but fighting games where you need autistic precise inputs and you probably shouldn't be using a traditional controller in the first place" is how I'd put it.

Interesting. I have an M30 that I use for games that need precise d-pad but the six-button layout means that the 4 buttons I'm actually using 90% of the time are off-kilter from their muscle memory positions after 30+ years of gaming. I might look into the Tegenaria then. At that price it is probably worth a try.

Two steps above a controller that's been placing well at or winning EVO for years is pretty high praise.
On that note, what's a fighting game with both a strict interpreter and inputs at least as punishing on a bad d-pad as 632146? GBVSR has the best input display, but all the commands are simple and the interpreter's lenient. Blazblue's interpreter lets you get away with murder and takes an extremely shit d-pad to make it give up.

Most things that copy the layout don't copy the full set of features either. Closest I know of that's worth talking about is IINE Bastet/Fantech Nova Pro, which is basically a DS4 with hall sticks and triggers, two back buttons, usb-c, trigger stops, and additional xinput/switch modes. Feels cheaper in some regards (clacky L1/R1, no anti-friction rings on the sticks) and the d-pad is worse, but at $10-30 they're hard to beat.
Tegenaria Lite and the upcoming revisions of Tarantula Pro and Pro 3 are other similar-ish symmetrical options, but they don't keep things like the touchpad or audio.

I think the retro receivers and the DIY wireless mod kids are really neat. Hoping they will one day release a wireless adapter for the n64, though afaik it's a bit more complicated with the 64 because it would have to be able to transfer data to the controller paks, e.g. save data.

Has anyone tried the gamecube controller kit? How do the replacement sticks feel?

You can buy adapters that are compatible with 360 controllers specifically. They aren't bluetooth like most wireless controllers nowadays so you need special hardware to interface with it.

It is what it is. Your best alternative is modding a usb-c port, soldering TMR sticks, and buying a back button attachment for a DS4, which is the closest you can get to what you want in the current market.
Also grab hidusbf and overclock to 1000hz if you're using DS4 wired. Sony has some of the best controller latency, but the controllers don't run at full speed by default when wired for whatever reason.

>2.4ghz connection so no bluetooth jank
>came with a charging station that just snaps in

ONE BIG PROBLEM though. The triggers are awful and the membranes wear out if you play games like monster hunter or souls on it. My right trigger wore out so much after a year a full depress only gives 40% max
Thank fuck they have a calibration software on their website so I could lower the trigger sensitivity to get 100% depression from my 40%

You are not, what you're looking at is the firmware of the latency tester.
Bluetooth hovers around 730Hz, wired can stably poll at 1000Hz but oddly only defaults to 250Hz. Dualsense is similar in both behavior and numbers.
