You need to replay P4 again then because that game has some really shit dungeons, SLs in desperate need of a rewrite, boring bosses, heavily outdated graphics (fog still looks good tho) and it's missing a ton of QOL features that 3 and 5 now have. Leaving 4 out of the remake club would just leave it as the black sheep (even though it arguably already is that). /v/ will spend 99% of the time talking about Naoto and Kanji with this game, but there's a lot of shit that actually could use improvements that this board barely talks about.

It's actually not. The Golden content is genuinely really shitty. I'm assuming since you said december that you've already experienced about 80% of the content, which are just extra oddball scenes that occur at random and are really out of place, like playing in a band, or getting scooters. There's an extra city that's nice cause it gives you a few extra features, but that's it.

But the final 20% focused around the new dungeon/boss tank everything and make dealing with Marie awful. You get a group of cutscenes that are basically similar to the summer camping trip, except it's on a ski resort, then you get to enter into Marie's dungeon. The dungeon is a fucking slog because every enemy in there is resistant to physical, and enemies tend to only take normal damage from one type of magic. To help with this, they drop magic-break consumable battle items which you'll need to collect a fuck ton for reasons I'll mention. As if that wasn't already shitty enough, EVERY door, EVERY treasure chest, and the end of EVERY battle, the game HALVES the SP of your party. So you either have to try and farm money to pay the fox all the time, use the magic break items which you genuinely don't want to do, spend 40 rounds in a single combat wailing on the physical resistance, or just run around them. Guess which option you'll wind up doing by floor 2 out of like 15 or something.

This culminates in a battle that is otherwise forgettable except for the fact that Marie's shadow is immune to everything, so you have to spam those break items you'd been hoarding, which you only get at battles and treasure chests, so I hope you've been grinding through those unfun battles you started to run around.

Honestly it was worse than FES despite being significantly shorter.

I am most excited to see how they change the tv world exploration and party member movesets.
I’m expecting a baton pass mechanic but i feel like mechanics in general will be shallow if they make phys into a single affinity again. P3R was pretty faithful mechanics wise outside of boost/amps for physical affinities, 4 had 1100 power primal force though which is ridiculous damage.

Absolutely not too late. If anything, playing the PS2 version now gives you a perfect baseline to compare the remake against. You'll get to see the original tone, the quirks, the crusty animations, all the good stuff before Atlus possibly turns it into PG-safe persona soup. It's been a minute since I've played P4, but I don't recall Kanji's shadow saying anything about him liking dudes. Yeah, it was acting gay as fuck but that's not really indicative of how the characters actually are, otherwise you're saying that Chie is actually hiding a dominatrix side of her or that Rise literally wants to strip in front of everyone like a whore. The game does tell you that the midnight channel shows what other people want to see but that only serves as an explanation to why the characters that are kidnapped appear in the midnight channel as a blurry picture before getting kidnapped.
It would make no sense for people to know about yukiko, kanji, or rises insecurities because they only ever saw them in an interview on tv. Especially kanji, nothing about him is similar to his shadow at all personality wise when you see him.
This would also directly contradict the whole iam thou and thou art i thing. Shadows are repressed feelings of a person not what others see and feel about said person.

They word it using “desire” as a motif but its pretty much the same thing, just like in 3. The shadow reflects the innermost self of people and persona users are people who tame their shadows (ergo they learn to accept that part of themselves).
Just because the shadow reflects feelings or desires that are opposite to what the person shows in real life does not mean that the person itself doesn’t have those feelings.
For example in Chies case, she truly cares about Yukiko as a friend but what her shadow tries to berate her with is that she uses Yukiko, a person who is much more pretty and popular than her, as a way to feel better about herself and she needs Yukiko to be able to cope with how she is because Yukiko needs her. Thats why her shadow says things like she’ll never loosen her grip on yukiko which makes it seem like Chie us an uncaring friend but its really just a normal feeling for anyone to have about a friend in general just not one you want to show obviously.
Shadows in p5 are the same except that they go berserk due to escaping mementos which happens when someone has an exceptionally strong desire. You could see it as having a will so strong to achieve something that your shadow goes berserk. However a lot of these guys never get to enter the metaverse and awaken to their shadow selves (assuming they could). This basically only happens to futaba and only after her shadow convinces her to stop lying to herself. The palace in p5 is always very literal about the users will and personality. Futaba sees her house as a tomb do thats what her palace is literally speaking but it is also full of digital effects to make it seem like a fusion of egypt and the inside of a computer which fits futaba. You can say similar things about kamoshida, it looks like a medieval castle but it has volleyball effects and statues of womens bodies

Okumura was absolutely attempting to damage control his company situation, his business practices were well known but that doesn’t mean he was actively admitting them to the public.
Sae was obsessing over winning the case at all costs and essentially using a misguided sense of justice to achieve it even if it meant convicting a scapegoat, hence her extremist attitude.
Repressed desires or feelings can be things you are aware of or deluding yourself about, kamoshida was indulging in raping minors and fully aware of it. Sae is the another example of this. She is clearly a good person, but she was in the mindset of winning at all costs, reflecting the nature of the Japanese prosecution system at the same time.

I played P4 less than a year ago IMMEDIATELY after beating P5Royal, I stand by what I said.
I mean, the dungeon always sucked untill P5. They are "good enough" in p4. About the same quality or slighty better than P3s remake dungeon.
SLs need to NOT have a rewrite. I loved then only thing that needs a mild rewrite is some of the options where you have the social points for a specific option and it doesn't really change the outcome. Other than that I am worried they will fuck with some of the really intense subject matter they covered or completely cut out characters like the nurse who fucks you.

I also don't think 4 should be "left out of the remake club" I think it should be last. P4 is the best persona game and it deserves to get a remake so good it blows people out if the water.

When I think remake, I think "If I let a middle schooler try this game, would they stop cause its too ugly or too difficult to understand, or would they be jist as into it as a current game"
