Combat in this game is shit and it's strange that the sling shot, the one weapon type that has any sort of mechanical intrigue, is largely useless as a weapon.

The bad thing is the movement.
The movement is fine for a farming game or social sim, but for combat, you just feel was too slow and cumbersome. You can't really move around swiftly and dodge enemies effectively.

You can buy bombs in the cavern shop, from the dwarf.
You can get $$$ by farming worms in the cavern, they spawn in floor 10-20 I think, you can get ancient seeds from them which in turn get you the most profitable plant in the game.
Then you can exchange items for bombs in the desert.

The combat was my biggest issue with the game too. I think it adds nothing to the experience.
In fact, anyone who's played the game long enough knows that you eventually ignore enemies altogether. They die as collateral damage from bombs and serve as occasional food drops. End game combat is bombs, food and stairs, not weapons.
