it's not like playdate was the first in the industry to do crank controls, nintendo's actually did it themselves before playdate with labo and SEGA did their fishing controller nearly 2 decades ago at this point

They unironically probably patented that because in the even that something at all in their product line for the next 30+ years needs a device that could be argued as "rotating" like a crank they can pull that shit up and be like uh actually that was our idea.
