We never defeated the Taliban , and the government we tried to establish didn't either. They won the long war and decimated the Afghan Security forces while the coalition scrambled to do anything against the Taliban. The main war in Afghanistan was mainly the Taliban against the government being propped up by the coalition and we honestly could do fuck all about the Taliban being able to destroy it.

When we first invaded we just kicked them out of the cities and expected them to fuck off, and instead they slowly got stronger and stronger over the years while we were trying to chase them down in the hills. They gained more support the longer we stayed, we spent more money the longer they stayed, we could not do anything about actually rooting them out of the hills, and they played the long game and won. They also really, really fucked up the Afghan military we kept trying to prop up. The Taliban were genuinely good at what they did and we need to stop coping about it.
