how the FUCK people beat this shit back in the day without using and abusing save states and having the game on 0.5x speed

It's definitely a tough game, but most of it is manageable aside of the absolutely massive difficulty spike of the boss rush and especially the final boss, but even that is a lot easier if you did the stupid ELF grinding.

Great game with really strong combat system and boss designs, but the save system is absolutely retarded. You basically want to reload each mission until you are able to do the mission without wasting a single continue. You do get a bunch of continues later in the game and it maxes out at 9, so don't feel like you can't waste a few here or there, but you really want all 9 for the final boss or you're going to have a bad time trying to practice him

Apparently the new ports fixed the save issues though

This game made me cry so many times as a kid

only thing i didn't like about z1 was that some missions don't give you enough enemies to kill for the full grade so you have to waste time going back and forth to grind before entering the boss room

I played it over and over again. My first GBA game was Megaman and Bass while I borrowed MMZ from a friend. I got to a point where I could clear the entire game without losing a single life.

I never beat any of the sequels though

Just recently beat this on my MiSTer with save states and minimal elf grinding. Game is legit hard as fuck, one of the hardest action games I've ever played if you don't abuse the elf system.

By not being whiny, terminally online schizos, but actual gamers.

You learn the boss patterns. You don't throw a fit just because you couldn't beat something the first attempt.

????
I mean sure it's demanding, the bosses especially take some figuring out, but that's a big part of what makes it fun. Playing 2 at 14 is what took me from a dumbass who couldn't engage with mechanics to a slick pro. It felt like something clicked and I went back and dunked on all kinds of other stuff that was too hard for me as a kid.

Now S-ranking the whole game without savestates is fucking hard. I squeaked through 1 and 2 on the remaster collection, but I legit can't finish that final megalevel and triple final boss without taking too much damage and bumping down to an A. It's really bumming me out.
I do think it's a lot harder on a bigger screen, and that's part of it. It was designed for a handheld where you can take everything in instantly without moving your eyes at all.

that whole series was dope as fuck. you need to grind the ELFs and just manage positioning in boss fights. it is tough as 17th century anvil but it is beatable. Zero 3 is objectively the best game but I personally love 2 more.

By replaying stages until they memorized the enemy layouts
Or by grinding cyber-elves

>babyfied remaster collection
what the fuck are you talking about?
Also can you not read? I played the originals on GBA and I'm finding the remasters to be harder rather than easier because the games were literally designed to be played on a tiny screen.

cyber elves, when you stop caring about rank, megaman zero becomes super easy

That's the input lag and you getting older. No game in existence is easier on a tiny cramped screen with cramped controls

They do. It’s really remarkable how much better the Zero/BN collections are compared to Classic and X.

I gave up ever trying to A/S-rank MMZ1. Doing a lot of the stages without a death is rough, and an exercise on restarting until you've memorized the enemy layouts.

You may be right about the other two, but not this. Even on a big screen, it's framed for a tiny one. It's the same challenges of a tiny screen but with the added overhead of having to look at different parts of the screen instead of taking the whole thing in at once.
