Theyre good but not really as much into the psychological side of things. Theyre about the cult and 3 is a direct sequel to 1
You should play them yes. Still god tier games

played silent hill 2 up to the prison and had to stop because it was legitimately too much for me to handle I was shaking with adrenaline. It doesn't matter if I finished I got spoiled to everything long ago so I was just filled with dread the entire time with no payoff at the end.

Now someone will try to tell you that the remake is better than the original and you're going to have to deal with pure rage the rest of your life. The staircase scene is my favorite scene in any video game and makes me feel the same feeling I felt the first time I watched it no matter how many times I watch it.

the game itself wasn't even that scary. I felt more dread and anxiety then anything. the prison itself is full of 5 monsters but the atmosphere and everything was just way too much for me. I don't handle spooks well and the game gave me PTSD for a bit and I still think about it sometimes. my brain's all kinds of fucked up. I don't even know why I bothered playing when I know the story.

I played fairly recently around 2 years ago with the Enhanced Edition for PC and it broke me at the end. I may be sentimental, but SH2 is such a great experience and will never get old, just like a classic movie like The Seventh Seal. It shouldn't have remakes. It doesn't need remakes. It's incredible as it is, how it is.

The soundtrack still haunts me
>...It's hot in here, isnt it?
>...You see it too? - For me, it's always like this.

That scene with Angela made me choke. It's such a great melancholic game. The good kind of sadness that makes you heal.

The Prison was peak creepy shit, few games or things have made me feel as uncomfortable as reaching the prison and exploring it. The story and music is peak human soul.

1 is very outdated and honestly quite mediocre in my opinion. 3 is good, but is focused more on the "present" story than the psychological side of things. Personally I still think 2 is the peak of the franchise. Even years later I still get emotional whenever I hear Mary's letter.

I played 2 for the first time in preparation for the remake when it was announced. I found the remake better in almost every single way. Better characterization, better music (Akira Yamaoka's still got it), better combat, and of course better graphics. I also found the new ending where James leaves the car SO beautiful I literally almost cried.

Really, the only thing the original has over the remake is Angela/Maria not looking like roasties and a more surreal atmosphere. Maybe I would feel differently if I actually played it back when it released in 2002 or whatever, but I had no appetite for horror games at the time.

They are both better video games than 2. 1's more occult than psychological but it's very well rounded in terms of exploration and combat. 3's by far the most linear of the lot and it abuses instakill situations, but it also has the best visuals and combat scenarios. If 2's a game that gets under your skin because it's unbelievably depressing, 1 and 3 do so because they feel like they want you dead, especially 3.

Fatal Frame 2. In particular the Xbox version. I would say it's the scariest horror game ever made, literally gave me a sleep paralysis demon that still shows up every few months in the wee hours of the morning. SH2 has hands-down one of the best stories and presentations in all of gaming. Between the characters, the soundtrack (Yamaoka's whole sound direction thing), and the way the endings are mostly a result of HOW you play instead of choices you make, all the pieces just fell into place perfectly.
