Out of the ones I've seen I like The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog the best

Would love to go obscure, but I've seen them all and the original run of Super Mario Bros Super Show is the most watchable. Still not good, not by a longshot, but we're comparing it to other video game cartoons and generally they're just terrible.

Second place: DK Country. Yes, really. The music actually helps and the CG is pretty good for 1998.

I used to watch the SMBSS all the time as a kid. My dad bought me the whole series on dvd and I watched it on my portable DVD player. Good times. It really was not good and I caught on fairly quickly after I got over my initial "whoooooaaaa Mario's on the TV!!" but it was good fun. I genuinely wished, though, for a good Mario & Luigi TV series based on all the RPG lore Nintendo has built up over the years. I legit still believe it could make one unique cartoon or anime.

Second to me is Zelda. I also used to watch that all the time and as always, the hype came from just watching a video game you loved as a show. It wasn't good at all, either, but it was a comfort show for me as a kid.

If Dragon's Lair counts as a real video game, there was a Saturday morning cartoon based on it that was passable at the time. Again, Dragon's Lair is a glorified laser disc menu selection so it's a stretch to call it a video game in the first place.

The show had a unique quirk in that when Dirk was in trouble they'd show you "what if" he picked the wrong solution and got killed (no blood, like the game), then restart and do it right.

Oddly enough it wasn't animated by Don Bluth studios (original animator for the game) but Ruby-Spears productions (Scooby Doo Where are You?, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Mr. T).

There's some real fucked up consistency between shots but i can appreciate them keeping the designs there mostly on model even on stuff like Felicia. Even if there had to be some "we wont get on TV if w dont add a bit of fabric on her crotch and boobs" stuff, i would have expected them to just keep her in her nun costume at all times or something like that instead.

The SMB3 cartoon. Somehow it feels the most in-line with the game it's based on even though it includes Brooklyn/"the real world" a lot. Dunno why they changed the Koopalings' names though.

I really want to know their reasoning for making a Darkstalkers cartoon. At least with Mortal Kombat, the violence was mostly hidden behind the fatalities and you could easily censor it without too much of an issue, but Darkstalkers has a sexy succubus and a cat lady who walks around naked in your face all the time.
