I feel like this is the last time games were about a fantastical journey in another world and actually believed in it themselves, the devs were as excited about them as the gamers and you can feel the enthusiasm while playing

As soon as the next game in each series hit you could tell they didn't know what they were doing and where to go next, they got the big inspired idea out in believable 3D for the first time and realized they have to keep making them anyway, but these three are so awe inspiring and genuine they made me feel like a kid again

You really can't get vistas like this with the '''open'''/connected maps of world, rise, or wilds.
The hunting zones feel incredibly tiny now. I don't think it was worth it.

Quest checklist/markets are a mistake that keep you less infested in a game world because you know that you can put it away for any amount of time and return to play with no consequence, always having a handy dandy checklist waiting for you once again. I like when games are just open spaces and you, the player, have to know what is going on by merit of having experienced it and processed that experience. Checklists lighten the mental load on the player, but a light load makes for weak muscles. Even a game like far cry would feel 1000x more like one of these old adventures of they removed a bunch of UI and checklists for the player to treat the game like it is copies rather than an adventure.

Is Jak 1 any good? I only played the opening level and it seemed like a very generic collectathon without an interesting moveset. Does it get better?

>muh nostalgia
Retard third world zoomers if it was nostalgia then OP would be nostalgic for the next games in the series all of which came out shortly after, when he calls them out for lacking inspiration

There was an objective factor of 3D graphics plateauing and the frontier era of games ending that influenced this phenomenon, but I guess you'd have to non -underage and non-retarded to know it

You always have the basic moveset iirc but the platforming is really solid and the levels are mostly fun and have this great vibe but it's pretty much always jungle ruins. The game is really short though, so you can move on to the edgier, weirder sequels that have way more variety and freedom to play how you want. The 3rd one is really fun.

That does not make sense. The nostalgia window does not extend that far. It's 5 years between TP and SS alone

This guy >>717572348 is wrong; you're nostalgic for the era, so if you played Jak 1 and Ratchet 1 and then 20 years later you played Sly 1 for the first time you would naturally feel nostalgic for that game.

There's zero adventurous spirit in Genshin Impact, it's very obviously made by dispassionate devs mushing together popular tropes and aesthetics because they're popular and the game looks and plays like a cheap east asian MMO as a result

I don't believe you've played it but one can say that the games OP posted have even less of that. All three of them are very linear in comparison which erases much of the "adventurous spirit", they're also significantly smaller with less interesting areas.
Especially TP. I was pretty let down with FF12 as well but the sandsea area he posted was cool and I liked entering the bunnygirl village, that was probably the best part of the game as it was the only part that flared up the inspiration center in my brain lol.

This game isn't too different from Jak and Daxter with the variety of minigames, except Jak is way more shallow in every way. What exactly is your problem with it?

You're mistaking raw gameplay for creative inspiration, Genshin's openness is as easy to do and pointless as Minecraft's and it's a purely technical thing that doesn't add to the adventure on its own

The difference between the three games in the OP and Genshin is how the devs of those three genuinely believed in their worlds and thought they're the coolest things ever and couldn't wait to show them off, whereas Genshin is a just a commercial product smorgasbord of popular anime and fantasy tropes that the devs don't care about past making money on it, the fact they do constant surveys on what to add gives away the fact there's no vision or personal investment in the world or the characters

It's like comparing an old sci-fi book to the Avatar movies, sure the movies have impressive technology and CGI but they're so bland and cookie-cutter you can tell no one gives a fuck about their universe past using it to demo the CGI, whereas the old sci-fi book was written by someone who completely believed in it and wanted to convey its world to other people even if only using words on a page

If that wasn't clear from the posts so far then I don't think you even have the capacity to grasp what's being talked about

With these statements, you've made it too obvious. I don't believe for a second you've played it.
And you didn't even answer my question for you about it unless that's what your empty statements about raw gameplay and creative inspiration was supposed to be.

I also dropped it. It seemed dialogue heavy and knowing how Naughty Dog turned out I see that as a step in the wrong direction from Crash Bandicoot.

You're confusing quantity of exploration with quality of exploration

I'd rather explore a short unique linear vision than a vast trendy product made to cash in on gambling addicts where every creative decision was determined by the question "will this make us more money"
