most of the games are an acquired taste, so the overall quality varies over how much you are willing to spend time trying out and learning how each individual game works

It's a mixed bag, some of them are great, some of them are pretty good, some are okay but could have been great if not constrained by the limitations of the concept (specifically the fictional consoles two button controller) and some are straight ass.

I was looking forward to this shit for years ever since they announced it back in 2017. It is the biggest disappointment I've ever had the displeasure of playing, bar none. Almost all of the games are half-baked at best, and some of them are just downright trash.

It was incredible when it was new. Going into sthreads and seeing everyone rave about what's filtering them/what weird shit they're discovering was magical. Most people have had their fill and moved on by now, but if you want to just learn, play and master random shit you might not usually give a chance, it's amazing.

More like only a couple are duds. They're pretty much all worth playing. With plenty of games that are genuinely excellent.

mooncat, mini & max, and pingolf alone are worth it
there's something for wide range of people, but there are a lot of missed opportunities, the shooters all suck, there's no proper fighting game, godsblood should have been finished instead of magic garden being made, the meta game could have gone way further than it did and leaves a lot of things unresolved
i really hate over half the games, but other people seem to adore those ones while hating on kino like quibble race

I think this perfectly encapsulates what’s wrong with shit like UGO 50. It’s made for zoomies who are staunchly against just playing older games, but want the gamer cred of saying they play older games, but refuse to play anything unless there’s a little icon that says “YOU BEATED THE GAME YOU ARE WINNER” on the screen. These are retards who only emulate games specifically to have the “retro achievements” feature enabled.

2. UFO50 does in no way rely on achievements or anything. The garden pig is cute but that's hardly what the game relies on.
There are plenty and plenty of games in the collection with splendid replay value. The games are not designed for the player to just gun for the cherry and then have no reason to ever turn them on again. Plenty of the games are even highscore focused.
The UFO50 tagline is "Play Forever" for a reason.

3. You're really overlooking how many of the games in the collections are real standouts on their own. Some of them could easily shoulder the price of the entire collection by themselves.
It's very silly of you to think the appeal of UFO50 is just zoomers seeking retro cred.

You're really overhyping how deep or memorable the standout games are. Mini & Max is cool and Party house is a neat deck builder but they still only reach the heights of a really good flash game that got front paged on Newgrounds in 2008.
