I played the PS2 version of Shrek the Third so fucking much despite never watching the movie all the way through. The main things I remember were the hard mode being pure bullshit (one of the levels has this cutscene where Shrek gets hit a bale of hay from a charriot and it actually damages you leaving you one hit away from death, wtf) and the kino dungeon platforming minigame.

Rewatched this recently just for fun and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I remember hating it as a kid.
The ending is pretty kino.

It is a fantastic movie, but the problem is audiences expected a comedy and rated it based entirely on how good of a comedy it was.
That's like me going in to see Alien and rating it a 2/10 because it didn't make me laugh enough.

Shrek games were thankfully made in the ps2 era and after, which makes them playable unlike games before that

The theming could have worked, but Shrek The Third is genuinely dogshit, regardless of how you feel about Shrek's "I don't want to be a ___ (dad)" crisis. It works in Shrek 2 for the most part, and it's not awful in Shrek Forever After, aside from feeling majorly rehashed by that point. But I agree that it's weird that the writers for the sequels chose to focus on what seemed like a very minor character trait (insecurity / outcast mentality) from the first movie.
