It did well commercially, way better than W101, which had the problem of people not even understanding that it was an action game.
But I mean that as an action game, I find that Astral Chain is extremely underrated. I feel like most people opining on it have no understanding of how the combat works. The game has problems at a high level, but the more action games I play, the more I realize that tons of games in this genre have those problems to a worse extent than Astral Chain. And that it's actually an exemplar of the genre.

Should be ok to mention it nowadays. It’s amazing it released and faded away before the BLM riots, so there was never any stigma associated with it for being a “cop game”.

Astral Chain was great and had very fun and unique combat. Definitely the best execution of "duo summoner" combat.

Astral Chain 2 was never officially announced but he hasn’t been involved in any major project since 2019 except for helping with FF16. Seems very likely it was in development but got cancelled and had its assets reused in other games.

Cutscenes run at twice the speed when the 60 FPS patch is applied, which is why there's a second one that forces cutscenes to run at 30 FPS. The logic of the actual gameplay works perfectly fine.

It's abominable that there's been so little focus on improving clothes physics, clipping fixes, and things like plastic straw elbows

Man, life sucks. The game was already pretty good, but if they fixed some things like the slog of an intro and maybe more seamless investigation sections, the sequel could've been amazing. Well, maybe a sequel is still possible, who knows.
