What's the best type of reward you prefer the game to give you? For me it's a weapon.

I prefer some kind of permanent stat upgrade consumable. A weapon might not be for your build, or will be replaced later. But that +1str will stay with me all game. Also I just like the idea of strengthening the self, as opposed to the borrowed power of weapons or trinkets.

Well shit, looks like I just accidentally sent cave men to the space age.

Either an interesting experience or a unique item/cosmetic. It doesn't have to be super powerful or even that useful but something to make me interested in seeking out other stuff off the beaten path.
One thing I miss from early FFXIV content is that you had unmarked side quests which would give you stuff like interesting cosmetic gear, emotes, minions or the like. I find that more interesting than just XP rewards.
If it's a party based game then maybe unique party members would be nice, like a goblin alchemist who uses her own body to brew potions and who comes with a unique attack to turn herself into a bomb to do AOE damage (at the cost of having to be resurrected after).

Depends, if it's an obvious side path, then a generic weapon, armor or healing is good enough. Or just cut the middleman and give me gold.
If it's hidden though, then I want some special upgrades. You know, +5 attack, or +30 max hp.
Hidden character with bonus lore or a hint for a future tough choice. A new spell. Unique weapon.

A NPC. Not a fucking corpse holding a note reading "the monsters will get me aaargh", an actual NPC encounter with dialogue. I don't even care if it's the same NPC every time and he's there to tell me he got to the treasure first, I just don't give a shit about loot because there's so much of it everywhere and it's either unusable or all the same

Not all the time, but if there was a really long and out of the way dungeon arc, with lots of signs saying turn back, its not worth it etc. Then at the end you open a chest with just a note that says "UR A NiGR" that would be pretty funny.
