>Ted Faro
The bigger crime committed was retconning Faro into a complete cartoon villain. The first game painted him as more of a techbro whose creation inadvertently caused the complete destruction of humanity in ways that were almost relatable - shortsighted developers, rampant greed, bad practices, all compounding into a weapon that was essentially impossible to stop when it went haywire. Faro felt to me always more like someone who completely broke apart under the burden of his guilt, which is why he decided to bury not only his mistake but all of human knowledge, to make absolutely sure it couldn't happen again.
Then the sequel retconned him into an arrogant retard who lived in a private temple bunker where he hung out with his harem and guru, and demanded to be worshipped like a god. I mean, really? Could he not just have been a tragic figure who couldn't bear the weight of his unimaginable guilt and spiraled off the deep end? Did he need a god complex and a private bunker styled after a luxurious egyptian temple? It's so fucking lame, and boils an interesting, tragic character down to a cartoon villain.
