You guys should play Enlisted. It's made on a build of Warthunder and mechanically feels like a cross between RO2/RS1/RS2 and the good BF games.
It's in a really comfortable spot between super autistic and arcadey.

I'm have zero intereted in playing russian games.
I'm patiently waiting for '83 to release their game instead since they're the Rising Storm devs and that's the only version of Red Orchestra that I liked.

This post seems somewhat biased. I went into it understanding what a freemium game was and as soon as I knew I liked it I bought premium. If you know when it goes on sale (VE Day and Christmas) you can get a year for 20 bucks. I unlocked everything in the game after like 1,000 hours or so, so it isn't the terrifying endless grind that Warthunder is.

Definitely a fair complaint. They moved to a Battle Rating system a year ago though so there is no more duplicated research. I can't really speak to how the grind "feels" now though, I just instantly unlock anything they add to the game with tons of banked research. In fact I have to sell banked research because I have way too much to ever use now.

I do but i'm tired of the game and dogshit balance of the game where soviets and americans only get good shit. Last event was the worst we had, grinding every day i just gave up half way and got the bike to not increase item pool even more. There is also issue of chink infestation with a lot of them just cheating without care of the world. Optimization become a joke i get more fps in BF6 beta than in Burma, reworked Seelow or that new map based around Seelow (forget it's name). It seems like everything is half assed no matter where you look except gun animations as they got better with time they maybe hired better devs or outsorced it to someone more talented i dunno.

They're mostly custom game modes that were introduced by the devs for april fools events, like the moon nazis, nazi zombies, mech warrior, and gungame. I know a relatively popular user made mode is called massive war or something that just uses custom larger maps with bigger team sizes.
As far as I know the only "PvE" ones are the two nazi zombies modes.

currently the game is fucking grindy and opting to 'join any army' means you hop between jap to us to ger in exchange for a +50% xp boost, which still feels paltry

They did that. Certain theaters are only available to certain BRs now, but all the new ones they've added have been available to all BRs

Too bad that most of the shit is straight up garbage like low br smgs and semis at BR3. At BR5 their guns got completely power creeped by Soviets. Same can be said about BR2 tanks and planes. Even FG42 II is no longer the best SF rifle as AVT-40 20 is just more accurate with more pleasant rof.

i wanted to come back after the merge but apparently i couldnt queue for a campaign anymore? i just wanted to play battle of berlin kino but instead im sent to garbage. also the merging of divisions across all theatres was numb and aesthetically ill

There is a map preference system now so you can make Berlin a bit more likely

It was tedious to manage at first, but it gives you a huge boost when creating a different preset for each BR. Japan only had one theater worth of squads before the merge so they are at a huge deficit.
