Amazing how I could play Diablo 2 for 10,000 hours but I couldn't stand more than 90 minutes of Diablo 1.
It's too dated, I'm sorry. The gameplay just sucks ass, everything is obtuse and unsatisfying.
Cool atmosphere tho but that's a given

I've recently finished Diablo 1 again and I have to say it aged like fine milk. The deliberate slow pace, the tile like movement, the heavy atmosphere where you're dealing with the evil in some small town instead of travelling the world.
It's all perfect.

I like how you have to be a bit more careful with your movement and using the environment in 1. Both games have their own issues. People generally aren't playing 2 for that long because they think the gameplay is amazing but they're addicted to getting boss drops.

What I like in Diablo 1 is that there are quests that won't appear during your playthrough which makes the game replayable. They removed that in Diablo 2.

Yeah but there are so few quests in vanilla anyway. I like how DevilutionX just lets you toggle all quests, especially for multiplayer.

I wish there was some kind of “chocolate” DevilutionX that adds back in the cut quests from Belzebub. Obviously they’d need rebalancing, but stuff like going out into the woods or visiting Arcane Sanctuary is neat.

At least Barbarian became a Diablo staple.
Even back in D2 I wished they kept adding classes (Assassin and Necro was fucking cool tho), was a bit disappointed that Archivist was April Fools, and that Diablo Immortal was a mobile game that had some sort of lancer blood knight. I'm a sucker for Diablo likes with lifesteal characters
