Wii U has incredible value. You can play everything since Gamecube and Wii and the Wii U itself natively. If you softmod the console you can literally inject Gamecube roms and play them on the Gamepad, and it isn't even being emulated.

Theoretically one could play original Xbox or Dreamcast games online using fan-made online services but you literally have to coordinate with other enthusiasts to be online at a given time because there's so few people doing it. You can't just hop online on a whim and play like you could on the Switch version.

The number of people in North America using Pretendo on their Wii U has to be like 10,000 or less and then that userbase is spread out amongst X number of games.

My Wii U isn't modded but I bet if I installed Pretendo and checked it out on a random weekday evening there'd be like ~200 people online.
Picked that number cause that's about how many people play Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast, which has a roughly equivalently sized hardware base to the Wii U.

100% the reason the Wind Waker and TP remasters never made it is because they want NSO to have some value to it, hence WW literally being the first game they revealed for it.

There's only two games I can see making some kind of jump, those being Splatoon 1, which I can totally see a remake for, and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, being a relatively easy game to port over with the Switch 2's mouse controls being a thing.

Depends what you want from it, the Wii U plays: GC, Wii, Wii U. With VC it also plays: NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, GBA, DS I'm probably forgetting some and with emulation even more. If you can find one for ~100 whatever currency you use it's a steal. Note that the gamepad gives quite a unique experience that you can't get anywhere else if you care about those things.

If you don't really care about "soul" or real hardware then the Deck is more recent and BTFOs the Wii U in terms of everything but costs more too.

The wii u is not worth it for any reason at all at this point. If you don't own one there's no reason to buy one. Its exclusives have all been ported except for tp/ww hd, but you can just play the originals with higher resolution/framerate in dolphin. It's useless as a retro box due to no 240p output. Pretendo lets you play splatoon online but if you never owned a wii u I don't see why you would want to nostalgiafag over splatoon, splatoon 3 is objectively a better game.

I bought it twice actually, once on release then sold it because there was no games then bought it again on a whim for 3D World and Mario Kart 8 and loved the shit out of it. There was alot of coping but I really enjoyed the library.

can confirm that splatoon 1 lobbies are pretty active, suprising amount of japs too
desu if i remember right, to get pretendo working you just need an account linked to a console, but you dont need to play on the wiiu itself, so if you just get someone to set up your account on their wiiu for you and get the data you can just play on CEMU
does steamdeck have gyro? you could probably use it like the gamepad if so
