Looks like it was built by Chads who realized the Vita had the perfect handheld look, so they aped it and its d-pad, while giving proper analog sticks/buttons in the process. I don't like those rounded corners though.

You fell into the trap of buying a chinkheld device being lured in by the prospect of tinkering around woth it than actually play with it. Emulators, rom-fetching, perhaps PC simulcasting but actually little gaming.
I prescribe you to use it with "purpose" for a month with some sort of quick-engagement feedback system, such as subscribing to Retroachievements and playing old games to fill out the sets of the ones you like the most.
