I just finished Valkyria Chronicles for the first time as a result of a thread that was up a few days ago. It was a bit janky, but pretty enjoyable. Are the sequels any good?

3 is good but it's stuck on the psp and was never officially translated
4 is fine but knowing how the war ends reduces thevimpact of the story

4 is basically a sequel that adds some new mechanics and units, I liked it a lot.

4 is the one that's closest to the original game. 2 and 3 had to downgrade the gameplay for it to work on PSP (far fewer units on maps). 2 went hard into JP appeal and is literally set in high school, while 3 overcorrected and tried to be edgier but it just comes off as lame.
They still do some interesting things with the new classes that might be worth checking out to see if you can stomach the shit writing but otherwise just move onto 4 and then cry because Sega finds a way to kill every JRPG it touches.

For qrd o 2 is set in an academy for war and takes plays a couple of years after VC1, with protagonist being basically teens,
VC3 was good, japanese only tho, story follows a diferent unit during the VC1 war and plays just like VC1
Then there is Valkyria Revolution, which sucks shit. They shifted from turn based fire emblem esque combat to active combat melee and just straight up magic
VC4 is the best because they just said fuck it, VC1 was good, lets do that again but better

This isn’t just the first game with Selvania. You also get the drills guy in the second game. And Lydia in 3
Haven’t played the fourth one but I’m dreading it. The gameplay could’ve been soo much better if they came up with situations where each different class shines. Even better if the characters get to shine as well. But nooooooo, just order defense boost and rush like a jerkoff.
No wonder the franchise is dead.

Frustratingly, the developers largely failed to address the game's flaws in any of the sequels, and also had to make some sacrifices to make 2 and 3 work on the PSP. That said, I think 3 is the overall best entry.

2 is over hated. it had some flaws but it was still entertaining. also it had the hottest raita girl.

4's ranking is still turn based but more lenient. Some missions with a lot of events can allow 5 or 7 turns to get the max rank.

Because if we didn’t pretend there were rules, people might start realizing war is just state-sanctioned murder with better PR. Geneva this, norms that, meanwhile you're vaporizing a squad from a mile away with a railgun and calling it "justified." It's all cope for people trying to sleep at night after turning a village into XP.

The story in 4 is fucking retarded. It doesn't start that way but once you hit the battleship section it's just a constant stream of nonsense. I appreciate it for generally having the best class balance outside of mortars being able to snipe tank radiators from any angle. The squad leader mechanic helped a ton in getting MGs, lancers, and snipers viable on most maps.
