>>717615979 (OP) It had soul, the performances and set design I think really helped it with the bits of goofy humour in it. Most vidya adaptions are just soulless cash grabs, this was a movie where they were having fun with it and it shows. also the kick ass soundtrack >>717616696 based lambert
cgi replaced choreography except in a handful of films like the raid, everybody is too lazy to do anything but jog around a green screen stage

>>717615979 (OP) It wasn't afraid to embrace being a corny B movie. It didn't pretend to be something it wasn't and it had genuine effort put into every aspect of the film. The set design, acting, comedy, choreography, music, even the big Goro puppet had a ton of effort put into it costing $1 million of the $20 million budget.

Ever since I read what happened to Robin Shou during this scene, I cringe and flinch inside every time. God, even the sound effect when he collides was probably very genuine and real.

>>717621663 It's a shame Robin Shou never made it big like Jackie Chan or Jet Li did, despite being having the same martial arts background and being better at english than they were. Though perhaps it was his own fault for only starring in shit like Beverly Hills Ninja and.. well Mortal Kombat Annihilation

It's fun. It's not great. But it puts in some effort. Unironically better than the Street Fighter Jean Claud Van Dam movie. I'm going to fucking hate the new Street Fighter movie.

>>717615979 (OP) The two best fights in the movie (2nd half of Johnny vs Scorpion and Liu Kang vs Reptile) weren't even going to be in the movie originally, until they realized there weren't going to be enough fights in the movie based on a fighting game series.

>>717616696 It's funny how Anderson more or less nailed Mortal Kombat. Only falling short in my eyes with the lack of blood and gore. Meanwhile Resident Evil while still just a popcorn movie. Doesn't even try to capture the game nor respects the characters from it.
