Outside of the comfy theme the school doesn't really have much going on besides a few standard npcs. The staff are all incompetent and rely completely on a teenager to function.

Everyone is either putting on an act or deliberately ignoring the reality of their situation in this teenage mercenary school. It seems idyllic because everyone is making the effort. The building itself is pleasant, lots of water and trees and natural light, but the reason it seems so comfy is because everyone there is trying to make light of things and enjoy each day as it comes, which is why these professional killers have after school clubs and hold concerts and stuff. Each and every one of those students could die the next day on some mission they're assigned to.

I don't think everyone in Gardens are SeeD candidates. They need support jobs as well. There's probably kids training to be file clerks. That said, SeeDs are supposed to be like super badasses, which is why you can drop 3 in a mission to rebel against the current sorceress and they come out on top.

Also it's a military academy.
They're being trained for war.
They fight in skirmishes against real human enemies from other countries and shit for training.

It's a very idyllic setting and there's a beach nearby on the world map. The music, while not exactly tropical, suggests a warm, cozy place.

The school setting is cool but the strange thing is other than Squall's dorm room it doesn't even look like a school setting. Most of it is just one big corporate lobby. More office than anything else
