Inherently less novel/interesting by virtue of being a sequel
Still a good game

Insominac's Miles Morales isn't a good character. He's a gary stu with bullshit lightning powers given massive plot armor while the reverse happens to peter parker.
I'm going to say this: The separate Miles Morales DLC for the first game wasn't that bad. It's not as good as the first game but not because Peter Parker was replaced by a black guy.

Comic book heroes have been passing the baton to others for decades and decades. There've been like four or five Flashes for example.
Spider-Man was one of very few who kept one identity for as long as he did.
And I think Spider-Gwen exclusively exists in a different universe. Miles is the only one that co-exists with Peter, and even that's a new thing as his original storyline had him taking over after Peter's death. He also has a different set of powers so it doesn't feel like he's a replacement.

It’s nothing but sheer stubborn pride that keeps marvel and sony from admitting the obvious truth that having two parallel spider men is a fucking stupid idea. this game is meant to be the black suit arc, one of Peter’s most emotionally vulnerable and dark stories, and I think Miles inserting himself into that to beat Peter and assert himself as the more moral more capable spider man is what finally broke audiences patience for him. That and their doubling down on forcing you to play fucking losers who can’t web swing.

The only time Miles has EVER been a half-decent character was the first Spider-verse movie.

I crack up every time I think about spider verse 2, it was so clearly handled by people that did not fucking get it.

In the first one Miles “making it” as spider man made him equal to his friends and comerades. That was intentional, he’s a spider man, he made it. In 2 that’s not good enough. He has to be the BEST spider man. The fastest, the only one able to outrun not only Miguel but an entire dimension of clones. The most moral, the spark that inspires the other SPIDER MEN to decide hey maybe I should’ve be complacent in dimensional genocide. (This part pisses me off most because multi verse bullshit means this movie is saying that literally spider man I’ve ever enjoyed is a dimensional bootlicker and inferior to miles)

Also funny is that in an attempt to make a diverse cast, all the spider men that matter in this spider government are brown and black people, which I wouldn’t care about except that it makes it look like Peters are some sort of labor caste in spider society which is fucking insane.

Too much Peter Parker/Lil Jamal segments and not enough Spider-Man/Spider-hood segements

That and the few Spider-Man segements we had, seemed like 9/10 times you were just dodging shit and waiting for the cutscene to start so you can press a button and Spidey does Spidey things.

Combat got old, really, really fucking fast - most of the gadgets were replaced with pure slop that don't mesh well into combos, the entire gameplan is 'stay in the air bro' but it was more fun in the first game

It basically did what Batman Arkham series didn't. It 'improved' by removing the fun shit. Imagine if Banham combat was literally just 'bro, dodge, beatdown, repeat' on every combat.

Sorry to say that these days you are wrong. Just like Miles before her, Spider-Gwen retconned herself into always having been from the main universe. Also sorry to say that Miles being alongside Peter isn't "new" and in fact makes up the bulk of the character's history at this point

For me it's two things.
1. Is that they wanted to tell their shitty little story about how every version of Spider-Man is the same except for Miles who is "doing his own thing" which is not only wrong, but proven wrong by the characters they chose for the film. If it had been a cast of all Peter's the canon events thing could hold some weight, but literally none of the characters they used in the movie copy Peter's storylines beat for beat, ironically that's what Miles does
2. They made the three "most classic" alternate Spider-Men (2099, Spider-Woman, Scarlet Spider) into the antagonists of the film, with the last one being a shit joke character, while the ones that help Miles are all the newest wave of Spider-Verse slop characters.

The map is slightly larger, but it's still borrowing shitloads of assets, mechanics and underlying systems from the previous games. And the dev time wasn't even that long.

As much as I enjoyed it, it's a clear example of game budgets bloating to unnecessary heights for literally no reason.

That used to be the editor's job, but they haven't been doing it properly since the 90s at the latest. The trend of making a bunch of different versions of Spider-Man and sticking them in the same universe is a recent one

The entire side plot with Miles and Lee should've been the plot of his side game. Also the ost was surprisingly pretty good, it's just a shame it was wasted on this shit story.

The game was a massive success. You don't have to lie it. But accept it.

Several reasons.
>Severe cognitive dissonance between the stories
Peter is struggling like crazy, at risk of losing the May foundation and his home, Mary Jane offers no support to him and is upset her shitty book didn't sell, dude is shit on constantly through he game.
Meanwhile Miles doesn't know what to put in his college entry essay, beyond that the dude is living the life, 0 problems.

Far to many moments where Miles is shown to be superior to Peter, he gets scratched with Scorpion's venom at one point, something that damn near killed Peter, he just brushes it off like its nothing, he takes out symbiote Pete no problem and he redeems his main villain, the man that killed his father, something Peter of course comments on, WOW MILES SO AMAZING, YOU'RE TRULY SPIDER-MAN.

Nobody liked these, number 1 complaint about the original game, instead they double down on them and made MJ stronger than the spider-men with her magic tazer gun, Kraven minions that take radioactive spider-men punching the shit out of them to take them down, MJ just zaps them and they go down, the fight with MJ possesed by the symbiote is just a humiliation ritual for poor Peter, she just shits on him for the entire fight and blames him for all her problems, and Peter just goes "YES DEAR YOU'RE RIGHT, I FUCKING SUCK"
I could go on, but I've said enough.

I get you hate the character because he is black, but you don't need to lie. One of my primary complaints of that game is constantly getting cutscenes where you lose despite me beating the boss without getting hit once.

All of the good guys in this game where so vaguely nice, it was like watching a bunch of slightly upscale store clerks talking to each other.

In the comics Peter has traditionally been short tempered and can be a bit of a jerk to people he doesn't like. In Spider-man 2 he has next to no personality and Miles is somehow even worse.
