Do you think Legends Z-A will be better or worse than Arceus?

plass is a 3/10 tech demo so they'd have to really fuck up plass2 to make it worse

Gameplay seems like a step up, it was a little disappointing how Arceus lacked trainer battles.
I don't know about plot and setting though, I liked the vibes of Hisui.

The thing I enjoyed most about PLA was the lack of trainer battles and focus on catching Pokemon, aside from bosses the trainers in regular Pokemon games are just annoying.

Same for me, but don't worry. Competetive fags cried so hard about it, we'll probably wont get a game that focuses on the safari aspect for another decade. It's also the reason why I believe the new game is going to suck, since it'll probably be kinda of similar to a mainline game in terms of gameplay.

It's really strange that they decided to limit it to a singular urban area when the strongest facets of PLA were the varied natural environments and hunting monsters in them. The cordoned off playpens of the city to catch Pokemon in feels weirdly stilted, and it's going to have zero environmental variety given that the whole game is just urban.
One thing unrelated to that I'm spooked about is that I really like the regional evos and forms in Hisui and it's looking like Lumiose is only going to have new Megas, which is a damn shame because those are never leaving a Kalos game with how GF has now quarantined regional battle gimmicks.

I want to see how they're integrating the Boss/Alphas into it since they're supposed to be returning. It's very satisfying catching one you aren't ready for yet.

Yeah, it's basically a 180 in terms of environmental design.
PLA also made me realize that I really don't give a damn about most NPCs. One issue I have probably stems from the disparity of the visuals and the substance, since ever since models were depicted with more detail, their shallowness stands out more to me, whereas it doesn't really bother me when there is simple text for simplified models. Other than that they interrupt or slow down gameplay to the point of being annoying. PLA also has some of those, but they are usually pretty spaced out.

It's even stranger because the reason PLA felt so good despite being fairly simple for a JRPG is that it took the most fun part, catching, and expanded that to the whole game's play area with barely any breakage from that, while LZA is putting as many breakages as possible by swapping the portion of town to wilds that PLA had. NPCs in Pokemon constantly stop you, while even if a wild mon is hostile in PLA, you can just ditch it or fight back without delay.
I'll have to see more from LZA to really judge it because barely anything has been shown, but the gimmick of night having zero catching and all battles rubs me the wrong way.

Fair enough to wait and see, but I don't have a good feeling about it.
Probably because I also despise most of the battle gimmicks nowadays, since they are so over the top and really silly looking, so seeing them brought back is pretty much a red flag, too.
The agile/strong style was alright in my book, since it added some depth, while being subtle and more important, wasn't some magical gimmick shit.

The deadlines. They have to meet the deadlines. If the new game doesn't release on time, the cards, merch, secondary games and anime cannot release which risks sending GF under.

i read somewhere that they've been actively trying to distance themselves from the "anime" art style since SV, that's why its been this ugly ever since.

My problem with Arceus is too much mandatory grinding, I shouldn't have to go back to a region to catch 7 more identical pokemon 4 times before I can progress

Neither do I given how cagey they are only a couple months from release, but hopefully there's more to it than just grindan forever on the Z-A rank system.
I was never a fan of Megas myself simply because it's temporary and not used outside of battle, but it's more that they're supplanting the smattering of new Pokemon we'd be getting, at least that's how it's looking. I don't give a hoot about a super form dragonite with headwings I'm not going to see again until the Kalos remakes in like 7 years.
Styles were good and the turn priority system was as well, the only issue I had with it was it being integral to some evolution methods (Wyrdeer in particular since it's an extinct Pokemon outside of Hisui and Stantler cannot evolve elsewhere).

Because the player changed her shoes out to wear them, the default outfit footwear is some heavily padded sack boots because this girl is going out into bumfuck nowhere to fight wild animals using balls of hardened mud.

Let's see... 10 years ago = 2015. So ORAS onwards. I don't think it beats ORAS and it's about on par with the rest of the crap since then. I'm not even saying ORAS was a great remake but it still retained a lot of stuff from the originals and had some cool shit of it's own like the dexnav and soaring. And dexit wasn't a thing yet so there's that
