Yeah Cinderella Gray is fucking great. Season 3 of the first show is hilariously bad. Season 1 you can tell things are off to somewhat of a messy start but the Special Week/Suzuka build up is pretty great, but Season 2 is actually pretty good imo.

Of course, King Halo is much more succesful, actually getting one G1 victory and a few G2s but he had to work hard for that one glorious moment. NTA but yeah honestly the OVA felt just slightly better than Season 3, which means it's not that great.

I think Season 1 is a lot more solid than either Season 3 or the OVA, even if the animation is bad or whatever. You've got the introduction to the original cast, you've got special week/suzuka who have some of the best back story/rivalry/development. Lays out the spica crew. Just a good solid start to things, and good intro music as well. Season 2 is great. Season 3 is pretty shit though, I don't like how people compare it to season 1 because I think it's actually a LOT worse. It's completely missing the rivarly formula and nothing interesting to replace it, Kitasan is boring as shit, and Duramante is cool but a complete jobber and underutilized. Satano Diamond also pretty forgetable, not much reason to root for her. Season 3 of the original show is by far the worst of all the anime material they've released thus far.

What makes Jungle Pocket a cool lead is because she's not a crybaby pushover like Special Week, not an uppity cheerleader type like Teio, nor yet another mild-mannered Uma in Oguri Cap, Suzuka, or McQueen. From the moment you see Pocket she doesn't take shit from anybody. Her personality has more in common with the ORIGINAL rivals show, Ashita no Joe. Deliquent from the countryside gets turned into a champ for one reason or another. Main difference is Jungle Pocket didn't get sent to horse alcatraz for even more character development but that would have been cool as shit wouldn't it.

Anytime you have a character that is a total dickhead at first and then "locks in" and blooms into a champion is always the recipe for max character development.

Well you can only do so much with a character in the span of an hour and a half. Kita San had an entire fucking season to develop and yet is still a joke of a character when compared to literally every other lead and even side characters.

I just like what they were going for with Jungle Pocket's energy and personality. It's a lot different than the other Uma girls which tend to lean waaaaay more into being passive and friendly. When Jungle Pocket finally warms up to Tachyon at the end, doing her best to forgo her ego and treating her as a friend rather than simply a rival, you start to see some of that development shine through. Those few moments she shares with Tachyon and Fuji are far more interesting than anything that happens with Kitasan in season 3, and that was done in the span of a movie.

I think Special Week's character works pretty well. Kindhearted goofball from the countryside that's suprirsingly strong, likes to eat a lot. Bit of a Goku thing yeah. Funny thing though is Oguri Cap just does it better in every department. Still goofy but also a badass when she gets serious. Spe-chan is a pushover but that's okay. As a mascot I think she works fine. She's just the right amount of cute, doesn't need to be overly complex. Like you look at something like Mario. You don't need the mascot to be the most complex or interesting character, just sort of average and well rounded, which is what Special Week is.

But the story of having your mother die in childbirth, raised by random ass horses and how that was the real life story of Special Week is pretty interesting. Then you have to consider that the era Special Week in was particularly competitive with the likes of Grass Wonder, El Condor Pass, and Seiun Sky so it just sort of made sense.

The scenes with him struggling with Teio's situation does well enough to establish the weight of the drama even if he himself isn't exactly the one responsible for solving some of the big situations like in S1. He feels more responsible in S2, but still after Teio losing her dreams it would be betrayal for anyone to tell her that she can't dream of racing anymore, holding back would only make Teio more depressed, he does try to be the voice of reason in a couple moments but the passion speaks louder, which is why he still wants her to keep going.

I've trained up a lot of Umas, but she's my only 3 star that tends to lag behind literally everyone else and struggles to even get a B+ rating. I train up her Stamina as much as I can but something always goes wrong or jobs near the very end of the finale. I've been putting more time into her than any other uma but wind up with the worst results. Other umas I barely have to try and they wind up better. I've tried many different approaches, different suites of support cards. It just rarely seems to work out for Rice, but I'll keep trying till she gives me something decent.
