This game is kinda weird about the autonomy of the androids. A lot of the time Markus just waves his hand and says "join us" or "be free" and the androids join in and do whatever he says. Obviously you can't have a backstory for every android, but if you were just given sentience, would you really be ready a second later to charge down police with their guns drawn?

It's like he isn't giving them freedom, he's infecting them. Which is probably what Kamsky intended.

David Cage always writes good cop characters.

To be fair, it's actually 33.3% of the game.
I think the game could have been great if it just focused on Connor and Hank. Make it more like an LA Noire detective game. Don't start off with the robot uprising. Connor is forced as Hank's partner solving mundane crimes. The police department wants to fire Hank, but they can't because of his long tenure. They give him Connor hoping he'll quit. The rebellion doesn't start until about halfway through, where Markus and Kara are introduced as major NPCs. By that point Hank has stopped hating Connor and they can focus on the new mission.

It's funny that apparently Hank and Connor's actors ad-libbed half the time and David Cage hated it. But it's by far the best part of the game.

I like her but I didn't like her being an android for various reasons.
Mostly because why the fuck would they sell android models that look, talk and act like children. That completely breaks the suspension of disbelief because it's completely insane.

The most stupid part is that it made their lives 100x harder just to play pretend. Almost all of their problems stem from Alice being a human child needing food and warmth. In Jericho, the giganigga even points out that Kara knew but was denying it in her own mind because she wanted to be Alice's mom. It ruins everything.

Connor explains it at some point. The "freedom" is a specific malfunction. The game tried to be ambiguous about whether the androids became sentient or whether it was a propagating malfunction but the totally robotic character of their awakening really makes a poor case for the former.

Yes. There are three characters, a robot caretaker, a robot on loan to the police and a robot who goes "deviant" and starts a revolution. For the latter, there's a scene where you vandalize downtown to draw attention to your movement and one of the options for graffiti is (no lies) "I Have a Dream"

The robot cop and his police detective partner stuff is 10/10 though, Hank and Connor are the best. and thats why I have played the game more than once, just for them after killing Kara ASAP

I'm not sure where you got those numbers. I would say 33% of Detroit, the Conor and Hank stuff, is loved, the Marcus third being mid and mostly meme, and the woman part being widely disliked if not forgotten.

Anyways in my opinion this game should have had handled Connor better even though he's the best part of the game. I kinda dislike that all 3 protags focus on becoming free thinkers. Connor honestly could have been more interesting if he gaslit himself into being more loyal to Cyberlife but still showing androids and humans could get along or becoming full blown badass intimidating villain. It's kind of dumb and unthreatening how his bad endings are, and the 'good' endings are boring. He basically stops being a character once he commits to jericho iirc
