I'd rather go second against Ryzeal. Speaking of which, is Ryzeal stun a thing? I went up against an opponent that I swear to God was a stun player for like 4 turns. Throws down Anti-Spell Fragrance and fucking Messenger of Peace on open, and once I start to get around it the motherfucker drops fucking Ext. How is that any different from detonator popping every summon and negating any kind of monster effect that might let you out it? How is that any different from Crystron popping and banishing everything you put on board? That's how interactions work in this game, you prevent your opponent from doing shit and it's up to them to play through all of them

What's the best way to learn how-to play Yu-Gi-Oh, be it a game, digital client or just the best comprehensive guides videos? I've played MtG for over 20 years so I have a baseline for card games and I like to watch videos about Yugioh and come to Yu-Gi-Oh threads so I have a baseline understanding of the overall mechanics but not nearly enough to try and jump into a game without completely fucking up.

Master duel has a decent enough tutorial and solo modes that, while not teaching overly strong decks, can help understanding the flow of the game.
The problem is that yugioh's meta has been god awful for people trying to enter the game for like the last 4 years. Just consistently back to back to back brick wall metas that basically steamrolls newbies and chases them off.
The good news if you don't have previous yugioh knowledge you're not stuck in the trap of clinging to "I remember back in mah day I could normal summon minotaur warrior and set two!" so you'll probably adopt easier.

I'm not worried about understanding the current meta immediately, mostly concerned with making sure I get a good grasp on things like spell timing and the differences and nuances of how things like destroy and negate effects work since they are so much more specific than the more universal stack that MtG employs. If it helps at all the deck that originally sparked my interest in the game (I played as kid but that was early day playground) is Maldoche.

Understanding nuances of destroy/negate isn't really that difficult. Probably the hardest part is understanding the difference between the activation of an effect being negated and the effect itself being negated because there is a difference

The more nuanced rules I think can really only be learned by playing the game and making mistakes. Simulators are probably the place to start learning as they help you keep track of your card effects and such.

To be fair, no one actually understands a card like Tiaramisu until you actually work through the resolution. Seriously, it's probably still one of the most bonkers removal effects ever printed.
Anonymous No.717638027 >>717649996
Tried playing the other day but got filtered by 2-3 minute long turns where my opponent unloads half their deck on me. Does it get any better or is that just modern YGO in a nutshell and I should probably play Tag Force games or something instead?

> Probably the hardest part is understanding the difference between the activation of an effect being negated and the effect itself being negated because there is a difference
That's more what I meant, YGO is a lot more specific in how and when/if an effect is actually going to resolve based on strict criteria (again as opposed to magics Stack). Is duel links good in teaching me those aspects?

I like modern Melodious. The deck always had a foundation with potential due to Aria/Elegy protections and having a gorillion ways to fuse, but the support it got a few years back gave it some potent extenders and a hell of a fun boss monster in Etoile. Full endboard is basically a rock solid wall and a gun with a silver bullet, shit's fun.

There's flexibility with it. At full combo, this deck can get Aria, Elegy, Schuberta (White Binder before Maliss was a thing) and Etoile on board, plus whatever interactions you still have in hand. You want to slow things down as much as you can, watch while your opponent tries to work around the targeting/destruction protections (or laugh at their inability to read, this happens a lot), fire off Etoile when you think they can't mount a comeback or swing for game, and then swing back for a turn 3 win. Ideally, anyways. You can bounce up to 4 cards back this way but you don't have to, in this case you could bounce 2 and keep the protections up if you think your opponent can't get past it. The deck does have glaring weaknesses - it's not amazing going second, Anti-Spell Fragrance hits its pendulum/fusion plays pretty hard, and some board breakers like Super Poly and Ultimate Slayer uttertly ruin its day - but it is good enough for some opponents to look at the endboard and just scoop. Undestroyable/untargetable bounce 4 and banish 3 from GY? You either have the out or you don't.

Oh, and Nibiru. This deck can play under Nib but you have to be extremely mindful of it. Like, "run a copy in your deck as a Crossout target" mindful.

If you want to play with other people, all you can really do is hop straight into Master Duel and learn the hard way. Just figuring out how to make a good deck that can navigate to your win condition consistently and when to go outside of your archetype for utility can be a nightmare if you don't already know the names of a bunch of cards or follow a guide. Best/worst example- one of the most important types of cards right now is called a "hand trap," but that's purely a fan term and the cards that can interact in that way aren't officially labeled in a way you can easily find them. Again, if you don't already know what the hell Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is, you'll never find it just by scrolling through card lists.

If you're just a nostalgiafag who doesn't want to deal with the sweaties and you want to fight Joey Wheeler with Summoned Skull, Legacy of the Duelist is great. Tons of single-player content, it'll gradually walk you through all the formats, and you can go through the campaigns with pre-made or custom decks.

Honestly, I think this is the kind of deck I wanted Dinos to originally be when I first started playing MD instead of UCT+generic negate slop+pass. Nuking the entire board multiple times a turn is immensely satisfying, as is winning the potential draw for games the deck forces by wittling down both player's hands to nothing.
