But the Remake series is sort of a meta sequel, so it doesn't necessaril result in Advent Children anymore. Granted, the Aerith+Cloud thing is out the window since she still dies in Rebirth, but there is no "Tifa and Cloud definitely end up together" anymore. That was the old result from OG to AC.

Zero chemistry. Tifa treated Cloud like fucking shit as a kid, ignoring him and hanging out with the other boys. Despite being neighbors, they did almost nothing together until Cloud left, only to ask him to be her knight in shining armor despite barely knowing anything about him and rarely hanging out.

Then when they reunite in Midgar, their interactions are strained and awkward, being as passive as possible despite Cloud acting nothing like he was a kid, then going along with his Kalm flashback delusions to not rock the boat. But despite that, she often beefs with him over minor shit anyway, KNOWING full well how fucked Cloud's mind clearly is.

Cloud himself also doesn't try at all, being an asshole at all times until far past the point of being understandable. His fused personality with Zack makes no sense, why would Zack's fun loving personality mixing with Cloud's quiet awkwardness = a distant asshole. Aerith has to do all the work to get him to do anything, and since Tifa is so passive and sometimes passive-aggressive, you get the chemistry of a nothing girl who was never really Cloud's friend going against a selfish aloof prick.

Things only get slightly better after Cloud becomes a retard and Tifa helps put his personality back together, but even that is ruined knowing Cloud continues to be aloof and noncommittal in AC. Not even the extended canon wants the ship.

They have said the Remakes "link up" with AC (we've already seen Deepground and one of the Sephiroths around is the one from end of AC) so I'm guessing instead of seeing Red XIII with his kids at the end we get a new look at how the people survived and all that. In Rebirth it seemed like she was deeply torn on who she actually cared for.
In the original she flirted with Cloud but she stayed true to Zach. In Rebirth she heavily acts like she has a deep thing for Cloud but she holds back because she knows that she's not going to be around for the whole journey.

Anyone else think Tifa and Cloud are an extremely boring couple? Cloud used to have a crush on Tifa but between spending years away from his town and getting his brain poisoned by radiation he was way too out of it to continue feeling the same about Tifa. Given how many bad things happened to Cloud I don't think Cloud has a normal biology anymore. His testosterone, his virility, his raw primal instincts, etc. All of it is damaged. And we can see that in Advent Children, Cloud and Tifa can't reproduce anymore so they adopt some random bastard that no one cares about because Cloud's sperm doesn't work anymore. And while its explained Cloud gets better during the ending of the movie it still rings hollow. We see Cloud during Dirge of Cerberus and seems as emotionally numb as usual and no word that he and Tifa's relationship has improved (on the other hand we heard Cid's relationship with Shera did get better). It just feels like Cloud is too broken, scarred, and damaged to ever function in a relationship and Tifa blandly loves him because she's written too even though Cloud being an isolated distant bordering on emotionally abusive guy would never help a relationship and you have to consider he's been like this for multiple years after the original game ended.

Tifa's problem as a character is that she has no reason to exist besides being Cloud's Fuck Doll.
