Nicalis only published the console versions of Fresh, which has Curly as an exclusive character. Steam version is all SUCCESS and removes Curly.

It's very obvious that the game was meant to be just a studio saizensen fighting game with Curly as the only guest, but then Nicalis went "bro this roster is boring" and then they added these random crossover dudes.
You can tell because they aren't in early promotional material and their story modes isn't as detailed.

From Japan? I think Success published the game over there, I'm not sure if Curly is in the JP version. She's not advertised on the back of the box like the US version.

"Hard as shit" tells half the story. They are strong on skill expression, and they give back what you put into them. I would start with Sayonara if a stiff difficulty curve is a bit intimidating since that one keeps most of the fundamentals while making the arcade approach a little more optional. It is probably the weakest of the 3, but still clears most platformers on its own terms.

Sounds good.
They are currently on sale so they are super cheap even for the bundle containing 3 games so I might as well get that. Thanks again for the input.

It's the first English release of Sayonara, and the series' American debut in general. Supposedly, at least one other entry was intended to be localized as Yumi's Odd Odyssey before that one finally inherited the title, but none of those efforts came to fruition.

Anonymous No.717650193
Reminder that the original trilogy is currently on sale for $5.99 USD. If you're even remotely interested, you can't go wrong. They're published by Komodo, NOT Nicalis, so don't worry.

I personally believe they're some of the best 2D platformers ever made, but there's a significant learning curve. Sayonara (the 3rd game) is probably the most welcoming to newcomers, but the original '94 is my personal favorite. The physics are unparalleled and the level design is amazing. Bosses are weak point across the series, but with stage select present it's hard to get too fussed over it.
