Earthbound needs is a more faithful script adaptation toggle with no text slowdown, all to just make it match closer with the Japanese version.
I don’t know why nobody is autistic enough has fix the English version yet but it would be nice if anyone did it

I don't think there's a single variable-width text routine in the world that can bring EarthBound up to parity with Mother 2 speed-wise. The SNES just is not good enough to crank out those tiles quickly.

Other people have implemented VWF into other games as well and you see the same problems - the main differences being that something like Final Fantasy 6 isn't printing a whole ass brick of text on the menu at once most of the time, but scrolling, so the "slowdown" is masked the majority of the time.
EarthBound just does not have an answer to this because it insisted on VWF and drawing the whole screen worth of text at once every single time in what was previously a very quick menu setup.

An actual "solution" might be to allay some of the text/tile issues by replacing the entire main font with one that is 8px high so it's not drawing 2 tiles worth of shit for each letter/letter combination, but this is only a band-aid (as demonstrated in the FFVI one which does exactly this for the menus)

It's not worth suffering THIS much just to have the game run at almost proper speed.

The only game I can see remade is Mother 3. But Mother 3 would have to sacrifice half its soundtrack in order to avoid music copyright claims. It might not be worth it.
