I had a cool idea on how to make FFXIV great again.

What if instead of 6 pointless open world story maps the game had like 3-4 and these had actual shit to do in them.

For example, what if maps had regular story instances that are the same as how it currently works but also no-fly max level instances whit added objectives or activities?
On regular maps, you'd still be able to fly and gather and hunt.
However, special instances on the same maps would be similar to Bozja or Eureka, featuring even more dangerous monsters.
It'd be like each open-world map having story/gathering instances and challenge instances.
Completing the story unlocks challenge instances, so everything would be max-level.
In a sense, this would allow developers to add content to the game to offer players something between patches. It would also save resources by eliminating the need to design new maps specifically for end-game content.

they're also still used for gatherers and crafters by extension, and for treasure mappers.

Yes, forays are valuable as a content model because they provide things that the real zones don't. If you put that content into the real zones then you don't need forays at all. People still get the content and they don't have to wait a year for it to be tucked away in a separate instance.

Forays would just be the additional post patch zones.
You get 3-4 zones in a new expansion and then additional 2-3 zones in the future patches.
Imagine how many mid core players who dont want to play savage content but find normal content boring this would retain for subs.
When i finish any expansion i literally have nothing to do and i dont like doing savage raids day one and also cant realty do them day one due to my rel life responsibilities.
What is also kinda ironic is that they could also just transform parts of the open world map in these unique instances in to Mini alliance raids similar to Castrum or Dalirada.
Just pick a part of the map and add some extra structures and you gave people content to do that didn't require months of modeling to make.

Imagine if the Garlimard foray instance made the ruined city a mini raid ware 3 alliances each enter from a different part of the map and meat up in the center while taking control of different sectors of the raid whiting a time limit that then opens a portal to a final boss in the center.

it's not what the zones are designed for, most of them would suck as forays. too damned big. forays double as relic weapon grinds and a completely separate treasure hunt system from maps and their power progression is completely bespoke and separate from mainline power progression. so ultimately this is just asking for forays to get bumped up higher in the expansion pipeline which is wildly improbable with when patches are developed and built, there is a reason it takes until X.2 for a foray to pop up

FFXIV doesn't have a content problem. The game sucks. The game has always had trash gameplay but had moderately entertaining and decently multiplayer jobs.

Take those away and you're stick with exclusively garbage gameplay, which leads to the bulk of the responsibility to the content itself. Content needs to make up for the lack of RPG elements and mechanics Naoki Yoshida chose to remove to cut costs.
Somehow despite cutting costs content still doesn't come out right, but that's besides the point.
You can't out-content a gameplay problem. This is why the game is failing massively.
Even if we had ten eurekas and 3 savage tiers and 4 deep dungeons each patch, that wouldn't suddenly make the game worth playing, because content on its own can't make a fundamentally boring game fun.

In order to fix ffxiv the battle content needs to get harder with the ever increasing simplification and failproof of classes. Also get rid of the two minute meta and go for a one minute meta. PLD is literally the most fun class in the game because it rotates around a one minute burst.

True, and make buff alignment not automatic anymore so the bonus damage is a reward for teamwork and they stop balancing bosses with buff alignment in mind. It doesn't feel rewarding when it's expected to happen every time because it happens on its own. I think I found a good flow, first time trying to do BIS on patch.
Make BSM tools -> Make MIN/BTN tools to be able to gather materials myself -> Make CRP/GSM tools -> Make accessories -> Make remaining tools and main gear.
Spent only a mil to cover materials I don't have for certain crafts, but overall saving a lot in the long run. Just working on BIS to be ready for Cosmic early on.

they can't be much more complex in damage-dealing because healers healing is the whole point of their role (scholar traditionally accomplished this by offloading A LOT of abilities to eos and selene to make room for ACN's damage holdovers, which went away as part of the SCH/ACN divorce, astrologian and white mage were never much more complicated on the damage end than they are now), they haven't had much to do in stuff from pretty much shadowbringers up to know courtesy of how fights were designed, removing some healing thoroughput to make room for damaging skills is unlikely as healers now actually have need for most of those skills with challenges getting harder again

i 100% believe the problem is the lack of randomness in combat encounters. Because of this, "optimal healer gameplay" is doing boring as shit DPS because most of the time there's no NEED to heal. Its already solved.

Games like WoW, EverQuest got by this because damage output can spike heavily, requiring healing to happen at different intervals. As a result, other roles got picked up in a fight, such as minor CC, damage, or short term buffs/debuffs

City of Heroes got past this by making buffs and debuffs so potent that healing was the last resort.

This is such a nothing addition that I don't see the point in bringing it up, the Scions were stated in a voiced line by Tataru that they're still around in spirit but the organization is on the books as having dissolved. The time for a new MMO was Dawntrail, they should have ended FF14's story at 6.0 and had an epilogue where the Wol and characters have one last catch up remaining little journey/ get together, a final raid series, a final Ultimate, a final Exploration Zone and then the game should have been put into maintenance mode.

Disagree because of the nature of what type of MMO FFXI and Everquest are, they have a lot of systems that are sandbox and evergreen content, whereas FF14 is more a curated experience MMO, which is why story has such a heavy focus for good or bad.
You can end FF11's story and people will still play because of the nature of the MMO, but you end the story of FF14 with no possible future and people are stuck with nothing to do, they'll exhaust the raids, that'll exhaust the alliance raids and you are right there will be a small hardcore of players still who will dedicate themselves to the game, but you can't continue the story in FF14 without the resources required from a large player base paying for cutscenes, for voice acting, for performance and mo-cap, for artists e.t.c. it's simply a budgetary comparison of why FF14 will immediately end of the story ends and that ends when the population falls too low.

nta but the player part no, FFXIV has always and I do mean always had lower players after expansion launch and through the patches, its when the x.4 and fanfest drops more people return hyped for the expansion and because they get so much to do for the sub, many also just play on and off.
As for the budget really theres nothing indicating that they will slash it, SE wants to bring it back up so it makes no sense why they'd drop it.
No the biggest issue SE actually has is no one actually wants to work on an MMORPG, or really at SE for that matter which limits the team in what they can make.

Ehhhh Yoshida seems like he'd mention some big budget increase if that were actually in the cards. He complains about having QA staff sniped from him for other SE stuff and laughed at people thinking he got demoted from the executive board. He's been consistent since ARR in complaining about XIV's development problems stemming from lack of staff, not from lack of money.
